FYI a new subforum for you all.
https://www.bikeforums.net/pills-ills/
Because we've been getting complaints that it's hard to find 50+ cycling threads, we have created a new forum just for your medical issues.
Our staff will be moving current threads into that forum.
Please note that the information in here is never to be substituted for an actual professional's treatment and care.
Any medical issues posted in the regular 50+ forum after this date, unfortunately will be deleted.

Nice, 50+ was starting to sound like an endless litany of woe.

Well ... it is a positive, and much appreciated ... but when I saw the thread title I was thinking "Finally they have made a pointless and ridiculous yet relentless bickerers sub-forum."
I remain homeless.

I'm going to make an initial assumption that it's supposed to be a positive, but what are we allowed to talk about here, now? After we get divided up by 50+ bike color, there will only be one or two of us in each forum.

Cycling for the 50+ cyclist as the name of the subforum is written?
It's supposed to keep all the medical stuff in one area. Some people just want to see the cycling threads and they felt that they had to sift through things in order to find them. Some people just come here to discuss their medical stuff. This way it's easier because they are separated and all in one place.
We've gotten many suggestions to just delete all the medical things (which honestly did not have anything to do with cycling) but we decided this may help.
I'm sorry if you feel this was the wrong move.

Hmmm
One thing, I tend to like to search with Google... which does allow searching specific subforums:
Put something like the following into a search box:

It's like it's expected that once we turn 50, we are definitely going to have a whole list of medical issues.
But I don't know ... maybe it's a good thing. Maybe tucking away the medical issues out of sight and out of mind will mean that the 50+ group will have to focus on living life to the fullest instead.
Why not put that subforum as a subforum of Training and Nutrition. I've long thought there should be a 'medical' subforum as part of Training and Nutrition where people could post all their posts about knee pain, ITB pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, ankle pain, digestive issues, how to deal with diabetes, recovering from DVT, heart attack, etc. and cycling, etc. etc. etc.

Thank you..great idea. I'm 50+ and yet I actually have seldom visited the 50+ forum in recent months as there were too few threads about 50+ cycling. There's value in the pills/ills threads..at least they now have their own space.

We've actually moved threads there but have gotten complaints from those that frequent training and nutrition because as stated earlier, some of the medical threads had nothing to do with cycling at all. We also got complaints from the originators of the threads, because they wanted it to be amongst friends here in 50+.
We decided that this would hopefully be something to please most of every one.

Pills and Ills
Clever play on words, Maelochs. I had posted to the recently closed thread, "How do we know it's time to stop?
Actually my own preferred term for grump is pill, but the latter term seemed too obscure to use.
It was interesting to skim the Fifty-Plus thread list and see the number of ailments, out of all the posts on that thread just on the first page, that were moved to this new subforum.

"Growing old isn't for sissies"
From one of my 90+ year old residents at the retirement community where I manage the fitness center.
ETA: This resident also said "The first 100 years are the hardest". Sadly he passed away before he made the 100 year mark.

Deleting threads isn't going to score any points, especially when you can redirect them from the subforum.
Maybe just moving the entire thing ...nope
It's a forum all it's own and the description says Share the victories, challenges, successes and special concerns of bicyclists 50 and older. Especially useful for those entering or reentering bicycling.
Well...I don't know about you, but a lot of my friends are dying in their late 40s and early 50s, I'd call that a challenge to riding a bike.
Oh bother.
If this is only going to be about what bike we bought it should be a tad empty.

PS Why is that any different than what ails the under 50s? Maybe you should move us in with the kids.
(At least I haven't, none to move in with but I Digress)
Then again, I guess we'll all be dead soon enough.

Are a lot of them doing high risk activities like sky diving, bungie jumping, and white water rafting?
