64cm Carbon Frame? or Light Steel?
Anyone these days make a new 64cm carbon endurance/cross geo frame? I know that Trek and Specialized have in the past - but am looking to buy new. Is Gunnar or Soma the lightest steel bike you get new right now?

Calfee comes in sizes up to 68cm with prices starting at $2495 for frame/fork. Sounds like you want the "adventure" geo

But if not, you get more for your money with a custom steel frame.
Not everybody is a weight weenie with an unlimited budget.

Trek Carbon is dirt cheap now. Trek's 500 series carbon frame comes on their $1,999 road bikes which during sale time would be more like $1,699. Pretty good deal actually.

You can't be broke ass to buy a custom steel frames, they still cost more than most bikes.
As for the luddite accusation... I like carbon bikes, I think they are great...
After 20 years of development, they ride as nice as steel.

Yep, but I never said I was poor, you did.
OTOH, I have 18 years and an unknown number of miles on my steel frame. Enough miles to fatigue crack two sets of hand built wheels.
Few paint scratches but the frame is still as good as new.
I tested a Specialized Diverge and a Crux for a couple of days while the shop built new wheels. I found the Diverge a little too cushy (and I hate Shimano mechanicals) and the Crux was pretty good. Nearly as good a ride as the custom bike.
