Vermont Granfondo 30 June

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Vermont Granfondo 30 June

Anyone around here prepping for the Vermont Granfondo? Anyone have this under their belt already? Wondering about how this compares to other fondos given the volume of climbing.

I will likely do it again this year, did it the last two years. Very fun and well organized event. There was an absolute worst case, Old Testament rain storm on the day last year and they handled it well. Lincoln Gap is a beast, maybe 20% of people make it up without any walking. I was barely able to do that with 34/28 gearing last year. It's steep. The long course is a huge day out on the bike.

Awesome. Family has a ski condo at Sugarbush so I've driven portions of Rt 100 dozens of times to get there, it's gorgeous and I'm always sad that I haven't been there in the summer with a bike.

Can anyone compare it to this event? Both look interesting, and I'd love to do Mt Equinox.

I think my riding buddy, Ron, is doing the announcing at this event. I'll have to call him. He also has a bike show on WHUS 91.7 at 11 AM on Wednesdays. It's called Bicycle Talk and he goes by Pedlinron. WHUS is the UCONN radio station.

Did he announce GFNY for 2017 (last year)? I recall a guy named Ron announcing that one and spent some time with him.

If that's the one at the Finger Lakes, Yes. Very lean guy with a pony tail? Might be seeing him tonight for some bourbon. I'll ask him about VT.
