Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This is an oxymoron, in bold. And no, I am not calling you a moron.

Also, as I went down, my hip landed first (massive bruise there!) and I thought, "It's going to be OK" then milliseconds later as I continued to fall "MY HEAD IS GOING TOO FAST" and I although I tensed up and tried to slow my self, I couldn't. Next thing I knew everything was white and sparkly ... and then there were voices around me.
The ONLY concussion I ever had was such a surprise to me, even after it happened. I wasn't wearing a helmet because I estimated we were just riding a quiet mup. My front wheel caught his rear wheel and I went down in slow motion, I didn't even realize I had hit my head until I was back up standing for a minute, and then things seemed a little foggy. To my surprise that little concussion involved 2 or 3 days of dizziness. But when I was a kid and growing too fast for my balance to keep up I used to fall and hit my head all the time and I never felt dizzy. I think God protects kids and old fools.

Boulder ******* Roubaix. Road bikes don't belong on dirt, and that's that. I am quite happy I survived, the Focus is a bad ass bike, and dirt is stupid.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, it was pretty dire at first, but a lot better now than a year ago. And the best part for me is that cycling is still a part of the lives of Machka and me together. I still can't do randonnees, but am working on getting distance in a day up again.

We have a “Brandywine Valley Roubaix” ride in 2 weeks. I did it last year on the cross bike. It’s 50/50 road/gravel. It’s fun but I may skip this year for 100% road.

My pretty road bikes get dirty all the time, so that's definitely not the issue. Cross bike would be fine until you get on pavement, then keeping up with those guys would have been an even bigger chore.

Went out on dawn patrol today. The desert is so awesome in the morning. While out riding I was thinking "This is so awesome. I gotta stay up all day today so that it's easy to rise with the sun tomorrow, also." But nope. I was overcome by sweet, sweet naptime.
