Please identify these thumb shifters

I can't for the life of me remember where I have seen these before - I think it was a 1980s town bike with dérailleur gears. Can someone tell me the manufacturer? Or just guess, I've run out of ideas.

Thanks for your suggestion. They are stamped "Made in England". They are also made with steel. I've checked Cyclo, Lambert, English made shifters at Velobase...

I just had a thought. I wonder if they were made for old motorcycles? The old bikes used to have various levers for ignition advance and so on.
