Old speed play pedals needed greasing
Well the pair i own have no grease port thus needed to basically rebuild and grease bearings that way. Took some doing as the little cover was bear to undo . The screw was not Allen but hex and tight.
lubed up rebuilt and all is good.

I normally inject more grease every couple months (it's probably time now), and have to rebuild a set of Frogs with new bearings every year, 6,000 miles or so.
Delayed the rebuild too long once and the pedal body came off the spindle and flew down into the ditch. Replacement body was a lot more expensive than the $15-20 for a new set of bearings (I've got a supply of generic bearings from a supply house).

As I noted in another thread it is not hard to just drill a 1/16 or 3/32" hole in the end of the pedal
body and use a short self tapping flat head screw such as a #2 or possibly #4 less than 1/4" long to
seal the hole and act as a grease port. I did it on my first pair of Frogs and first road pedal as
neither had the ports. So far I am on the original bearings on all my Frogs and all have over
15k miles, with the oldest two pairs above 26k miles. Did have a body crack on one pedal and new
set of bodies (no bearings) was ~$50. In drilling the hole on Frogs you don't even have to take the
pedal off the bike.

Been riding Speedplay Frogs since they were introduced. Still riding the same pair. Every few years I inject some grease. ******g sweet!
I am on my third pair of cleats, however.

Like @BCDrums, I've been riding Speedplay Frogs for 18 years or so. 90,000 miles among three pairs. Wish other bike parts lasted like that "garbage."
