Page # / Post Count off?
Hi Team,
Not sure if this is a result of the migration.
https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycli...-have-851.html
Based on my settings, there are currently 851 pages worth of posts, but when I am viewing the thread, I can see links to 853 pages. Unfortunately, if I click 852 or 853, I am taken back to 851.
Thanks

Not sure what is going on.
When I have my posts per page set to 30, I just see 851 pages with no links to anything beyond that. And dropping it 25 yielded 1021 pages

I tried changing the settings around. No matter what, I "see" several more pages than what's really there.

Yes, when you set your profile to show fewer posts per page, you will see more pages. The number of posts in the thread stays the same, so...

Since that particular thread is so long (~24k posts) perhaps it is time to close it and start a part II.

Does that at the maximum 40 post per page as well, iBobi. Has for years. 3, 4 no matter.
Anyhow, whatever it is causes the erroneous page count and subsequent error message that accompanies it.
I've been on VB forums from the beginning AFAIK, well before Internet Brands bought the company. All I know is that you can fix it for a while and it will come back occasionally. You should be able to fix it the same way as you did with vB4.
Maybe it's an overflow.

I moderate another site that is (or rather was) on VB. We found that if mods permanently deleted posts instead of using the soft delete feature, it created errors in the database which could throw off true post counts. Perhaps the admims need to do a refresh of the post count on the forums. Could take a while to run but would likely resolve the issue for now.

THAT was it!
And I saw one on a vB4 site I'm in today, a rare occurrence for them. I'll try top remember where it was and let them know.

Can we get some more insight on this, as in trying to correlate this with browser/OS usage?
When I see lot of complaints on eBay as an example, a lot of them call out the browser/OS combination they use as if it might be a problem with that.
Now we know about the correlation between hard or soft deletes and count, although some cases can seem a bit extreme, so what OTHER factors tend to contribute?

PS To the OP: If you were returned to the last populated page then this version deals with that better than others, as you will get an error message in those other versions.

In regards to the 26,896 listed in the thread index, it's just because it doesn't reflect deleted posts. So rest assured that you are not missing any content.

At the bottom footer section where you can flip between pages in the thread. It shows I am at 891/897. I suspect the deleted posts are causing the page count to be thrown off (given its exactly 6 pages that its off by).
