While there are usually motorcycles out front Its not one of those lowdown *****-tonk biker bars like you see in the movies. No aggressive bar fights or brawls, no shootings or stabbings between rival biker gangs. You'll see all types in there. Its been a while since I've been there but the food was average but reasonably priced, 'comfort' food. This was just an unfortunate occurance between two people and had nothing to do with the bar or its operations itself.
EDIT: Looks like the ex-wife worked there as a waitress.

Bicycle riders would do that route and stop at Cook's. They would be at the side of the building facing Santiago Canyon Road.

i know i've sat either inside or under the sycamore trees dozens of times. solid midpoint stop on amtrak centuries from dtown la to san diego county and a good spot to "recalibrate" when doing the live oak canyon/scr/mojeska/silverado/antonio parkway/el toro gauntlet.

For the handful of times I've been on SCR (heading South) I've always been enjoying the descent past Cook's Corner and not wanting to slow down. Regarding the shooting... what a senseless tragedy.
