Addiction LXXIV

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thumbs up! Lyons crit?

It will be a jump, but you're young, and the jump from 4 to 3 won't be too bad. Seriously, hit Cat 3 over 50? You get to race with Tour veterans and Olympians, with stripes of all versions on half the jerseys you see. Embrace the upgrade.

"The group I ride with doesn’t have newbs. We are all competitive cyclists or duathletes. Our group rides aren’t casual/social rides. After the ride we might meet for a beer or coffee, but the ride itself is a serious workout."
Impressive. In that heat I’d be done after 15 miles, possibly 10. Good thing we didn’t ride together, you would have been so bored.

Thanks. The heat wasn't too bad yesterday. We started pretty early, and finished before it hit 100.

Not every ride is a hammerfest. Sundays + Fridays I ride with a retiree, at a leisurely pace.

After two days of racing at ~8,000 feet, today will only be at 6,000, or so. Breathing is sort of important when you're working hard on the bike.

Yup, Lyons. Would have liked to do the omnium but it's too dang expensive.

I upgraded to cat 4 in 2011, raced on and off, never had results, and then this year I've been on the podium in 10/14 races and won 4, including a state champ on the road and mountain.

It was fun being the guy that everyone chases because I can hold it and I'm sad that my short-lived leadership role is likely coming to an end.

You did the omnium? The TT looked interesting. I'm usually fairly good at those but I would have been on my road bike against TT bikes.

Not trying to brag, but honestly I'm proud of what I've pulled off this year.

Ramped up from ~2000 miles a year to ~8500 last year and over 5000 so far in 2019.

I've also figured out nutrition and seldom drink.

As a junior I was focused on not gaining any weight which meant basically eating zero carbs. A quick google search could have helped that. Funny how much faster I am if I eat a pizza the night before a race rather than chicken and salad.
