Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We had a supplemental kit order in January, so I ordered a long sleeve thermal jersey and a wind vest. It arrived today after a few shipping delays, etc. Tomorrow it's going to be close to 90. Ah well. Winter is only a few months away.

Anniversary celebration done and dusted. We watched two episodes from season three of Mr. Robot, while waiting for darkness to fall. Then out came the cheese and crackers, and one beer for me and two for the Mrs. And let's not forget the floating candles in the indoor/outdoor water feature. Very romantic. The Mrs. tells me we're going to Europe for number 30. Will it be safe to travel a year from now?

1. Why was it your sport to seek out rush hour traffic?

2. Why did it take hours to get through St. Louis?

3. Why don't you remember what happened that night? Did you pass out? Drugs?

So anyways, I’ve been coronariding the road bike. Trails have been underwater all year, but the roads are nice and quiet at lunchtime while I’m wfh. I’m like the only one at my company able to wfh, but since it’s our corporate overlords policy I’ll oblige. Awkwardly.

when the trails open up in a month or so I’ll have to re goo my tires. How many times can you goo them up before you have to break the bead and get the solidified snot balls out?

1) I really enjoyed driving in those days. Rush hour presented a challenge.
2) It took more than two(three?)hours to get across the city just because.
3) This occurred probably in 1980. That's a long time to remember a minor detail. But also, my most recent(of two) concussions left me with wide gaps in my long, and short term memory. I lost the complete year following it, for example. I can remember events but putting a timeline in place has proved impossible.

I've only spent a couple of hours in the pretender Vancouver. On my way to Whistler and Penticton. Both of which I highly recommend.

My first hikes around the mountain were super ashy/dusty, being well into the blast zone seemed like being on the moon. Nowadays there is quite a bit of ground cover established and baby trees popping up all the time. Some of the first trees to emerge from the ash are getting pretty tall by now. I should see if I have more pics from my 2015 hike, here's the two I could find...

Bad morning. What I thought were berries and pineapple turned out to be berries and mango.

We are kind of working on the next step towards retirement. The ball really got rolling in 2018 when we bought the Delaware beach house. Then early in 2019, we decided to sell the townhouse in DC, which we did, but we kept an apartment in the DC area when I need to go there for work. But the reality is that I just don't spent much time there. Originally the plan was that we both go back and forth, so both of us have lots of clothes there, and all kinds of kitchen stuff, and various bits of furniture. But my wife really loves it at the beach, so she rarely wants to go back to town. I was back there this past weekend, but that was the first time I had been there since mid-March. So the question is, why even have this place? If I go back to DC so rarely for work, I can just get a hotel when I need to and save a bunch of money.

Back in late 2018 when we made the decision to sell the townhouse, we had the option of making the move more gradually and putting the thing on the market in 2020 and not 2019. We decided to bust our butts to get the thing sold in early 2019, and we are now glad we did. I can't imagine what a pain in the ass it would be to try and sell real estate in today's market.
