Road shoes nut thread damaged? safe to use?

Just received this brand new pair of Northwave Storm Carbon road cycling shoes. I noticed what seems to be a crack (?) in the sole near one of the nut insert. Would it be safe to still use this? Or will the cleats fail as soon as I start riding :/ ?

I have the same shoes, and the same surface cracks in the same places. On my shoes the cracks do not go all the way through the carbon plate, and in use there are no issues.

Thanks for the answer! Yes, if I look on the side of the plate where the thread is, it doesn't look like the crack goes through the plate but it's so thin it's hard to judge.

Why would you not return an obviously-defective item? The crack is not going to get better with time and use, and if people do not return duds the manufacturer will not be aware of their quality problems.

+1 If they are brand new, by all means have them replaced under warranty.

They are brand new but the seller offered me 50% refund to keep the shoes, which could be a good catch if this crack wouldn't be a serious issue. That's why I have created this thread

Circling back on this thread, as mentioned above my Northwave Storm Carbon soles cracked soon after I got them. I did email the retailer as they were only about 3 months old and I had probably used them every 2nd or 3rd ride, so not much use in that time. I sent one picture of the worst crack (below) which went across the entire sole and they told me to send them back, I was issued a full refund as I had already purchased another pair of shoes (SIDI) to replace them.
