Schwalbe sells studs and a special tool to install them.

I did something like this when I lived in Denver in grad school - hardware store chain and zip ties! It works fine with disc brakes and sufficient tire clearance, but isn't so great with rim brakes...

I have replaced lost studs with that tool. put a drop of dish-soap in the hole or on the back of the stud and it will slide right in.

Great, my concern is whether it will work after the tire has been used, on vehicle tires you cannot stud a tire after use due foreign material in the hole, not sure if it is the same on a bicycle.

It will be fine. Those kits are intended to replace lost studs which are for used tires by definition.

We had sophisticated single speeds with coaster brakes back then.
