I've sat in an ND at an auto show. Can confirm that it is very snug. I've driven my friend's NC (robin's egg blue over camel leather--beautiful) all too briefly and on crummy Seattle streets. It's tight, but since it's older, I wouldn't have an issue modifying it to fit as I know it could work. But that's after I get over nearly 6 liters of power, torque, and sound.

Didn't mean looks, meant light weight. Which is what makes the MX-5 such a fun car to drive.

No worries.

When I saw that rear window with the overlapping c-pillars (is that what you would call them?), this immediately came to mind:

Plus the long hood, muscular fenders...

It will be an excellent car for your daughter. I will miss mine dearly.... Below is my last pic of the car when I dropped it off at the dealership.... :^((
Did not lease the Miata this time. Bought it as I plan to keep it for a long time.....unless a much better one comes up in the future.
So far my daughter has been taking good care of her first car. Purchased used but in real nice shape and low miles. Her is a picture of her on purchase day. She really loves the car.

Yep, Colin Chapman's Lotus Elan was a great part of the inspiration for the NA and all of the follow-on generations that have stayed true to the mantra of light weight, power to match the chassis, excellent balance, predictable handing at a very high limit and Fun to Drive. The style elements were apparent in the NA as well as the driving dynamics.

Who could ever forget Emma Peel and her Louts Elan?

Here is mine of 30 years. I chose the color to be close to Emma's. Used to do the track days some. When this car is running right there is nothing else quite like it.
When I retire I'm thinking of converting it to electric.

I saw one of these in the neighborhood a while back. Owner said he used a "totaled" car. Uses an NA or NB. ExoMotive.com

Now that would be fun. If you were ok limiting its battery capacity to relatively short trips, you could convert that little thing into an insane torque monster without weighting it down too much.

Is there enough room out back to get the motor(s) and most of the battery pack aft of the passenger seats?

Plenty of room both ends, I’d want to maintain weight balance so motor and some battery would go up front. The car weighs 1600 lbs so it could get by fine with minimal battery capacity.

Chomb1,
I like the looks of your new ride...Since we're sharing other makes I'll post one of the CV's I own....never had a mid-life crisis.
This is the one I drive quite frequently the others are buried deep in my garage with junk I have accumulated over the year and don't get much exercise.
1958 original Fuel Car.
Best, Ben

A fundamental thing that I have always liked about bicycles having grown up in a car-culture is that someone can't just buy more motor, that only is earned with seat-time and hard work.

I am surprised to see there are no midlife motorcycle toys. My 2009 Super Glide, it keeps gets better every year.

SSR's are nice also.

The thread certainly was hijacked by everyone wanting to show their cars.

I have a 2000 NB (SE model). I also have a Curt hitch on mine, and didn't regret it for a second. I don't really notice, and I get to make the best use of my summer daily driver

I had a Miata 1st gen. I hate that new hardtop version of the Miata, not because it has a hardtop (which folds), but because they went with flying buttresses and vertical rear glass, which increased luggage capacity ZERO. They should have done a fastback hatch, or even better, a shooting brake a la the first BMW M-Coupe, which would have been both sporty and practical. On my first gen, I had to transport groceries in the passenger seat.

A neighbor that had a 1st gen transported a kayak that he supported with a rear support that attached to the frankenstein bolts (attachments for the hard top), and the windshield header.

I had a Pontiac Fiero and attached a bike trunk rack by replacing the forward straps with a fixed length plastic coated cable that ran forward, underneath the engine lid laterally, then back out rearward the other side, attaching to the rack both sides under the bike arm angle adjusting bolts. Worked fabulous, held the bike high.

This thread got me nostalgic. The old Spit and me when I had hair... Now I'm tempted to go look for another, though of course it wouldn't be the same.

Flying buttresses. An old architectural term. Hate'em. I always thought the C3 Corvette looked better in the convertible.

M3 or M5? Darnit, it's hard for me to tell, I've lost my mojo. Oh that's a stunning car, even the color is stunning up close. EDIT: No fender vents, OK not an M, but still stunning. Drooled over one parked across the street for some time a few years ago.

I bought this for a mid-life crisis.

_MG_9018 by iabisdb, on Flickr

The reason being, I'm done with motorized vehicles. In my youth I raced cars that I never would want to afford. Although modern cars are so much better.

I started racing this at 17,

Last car I raced was this at 24.

Shouldn't this be in the "Mid-life Forum", or maybe the Mazda Forum? Here its mostly about the bike. Cars are for when its too cold or wet to ride.

When I was unable to commute by bike I bought a used Porsche 924- cheap, fun and reliable. I traded that for a used 944. Now I've got this, which I bought 5 years ago, just before the prices started to go up:
