This bike by Mark DiNucci was a gift from my wife who came into some money and wanted to spend a sizeable chunk of it on "the bike of your dreams!"
Mark and I had several lengthy conversations about my preferences and riding style: I sent him some cockpit measurements and made a couple aesthetic suggestions and left the rest to him. The tubeset is one made especially for him by Reynolds, essentially 853 with a few tweaks I believe. All of the lugs, dropouts, braze-ons, etc. are his proprietary design.
The wait was long but the results are worth the wait. I love the ride as much as I love the look!

His thinned lugs are always such a great looking style. And the plugs for the rear drop out is a really cool change from the typical slotted drop outs. The window really adds to the drop outs too.
Love the brakes- I have those on the frame I built last year. Tons of room, they are relatively light, and dont flex a ton.

Sweet ride. How do you like it? I have a Trek 750 from the same time period with essentially the same geometry and am thinking of setting it up in a similar manner. What size tires are you rolling too?

Details:
1991 Trek 520 Touring frame (Made in Waterloo, USA lugged cro-mo frame), converted to a Gravel Grinder.
The bike is relatively quick for a touring frame and handles more like a CX bike with the 429mm chainstay, but can still handle a 42C tire without finders, 40C with fenders.
All new parts:
-Velocity Dyad / Shimano 105 hubs, custom wheelset
-700x40 Maxxis Rambler DC/EXO TR Gravel
-Rival 1 crankset 42T, 1X11
-Apex 1 rear derailleur, shifter/mechanical levers
-Paul Motolite Brakes (yes they work with the Apex levers)
-Thomson Elite Layback Seat post
-Brooks B17 Imperial
-Salsa Guide Stem & 46cm Woodchipper bars
-Speedplay Drillium flats pedals

I started out thinking either dark red metallic or root beer. But over the course of the build and after several conversations with Mark, who had a lot of good insight into what colors look good on bikes as opposed to cars or color chips, we arrived at "Cinnamon Candy over Fine Gold." This color is from the PPG "Radiance II" series of their "Vibrance" collection... Also my wife loves orange so this is a bit of an homage to her.
I got the bike nice and dusty on a gravel ride today:
This one won't spend much time hanging on the wall looking pretty.

He lives in the area, so we are going to get together to compare/oogle our bikes.
Both of mine are "Perfect Pleasures" and I think his is as well.
Maybe we'll take some pics.

I Love EVERYTHING about that bike...except, and it's so minor as to be silly, a silver seatpost/stem would look better to me. This is so exceptional and smart; I'm not familiar with Meade, but I'll be looking for his stuff now. Just such a classy, smart build.

Thanks 😊 I do have a Moots ti seat-post and another silver stem for it but I kind of like it now the way it is. It was Alex’s choice when we were spec-ing the components. I tried to get as many US made parts as possible for this build!
