Colnago first ride
How was her ride? If her first bike, I was waiting to see the DURA-ACE or Campy "training wheels". Beautiful small frame. My first race bike was a Colnago, but I don't think my parents knew about those when I was 4 years old when they gave me my first bike (with the "trainers" on it).

Believe me, if I swapped my old.Super fork to that frame, it would look very similar. I have another unknown Colnago slightly newer that has the same exact fork in chrome, but definitely a different frame style and no crimps. I'm still confused with the tubing Colnago used in that era; seems that there are the GILCO and ESA "crimped" tube sets used independently within models types. ESA and GILCO tubed Mexico's were made, even with variants among frames.I'm at the point due to design, tubing, and paint; that this a 1986 Nuovo Mexico. Paint scheme used only in 86, changed to GILCO for the Nuovo model, but same lugs? Best guess!
I would agree that your bike is a 1986 Nuovo Mexico which seems an appropriate designation. I think the particular seat stay caps used on your frame are restricted to the early-middle 1980's and with your knowledge of the paint scheme - 1986 seems to be a pretty good assumption. To me, your frame looks similar the Colnago Mexico frame used by Beppe Saronni in 1982/83 but I think the seat stay caps on his bike were concaved and not flat. As you say, a change of fork could have us re-guessing to an earlier era.
The front fork and the bottom bracket shell really are later components and are beautiful in design.
That's an interesting fact re the paint scheme. I knew it was mid-eighties but I never knew it was just a 1986 variant.
Yours is a lovely bike and I'm sure it must get quite the 'going over' when you are amongst Colnago friends.

I decided "once ugly, go uglier," and in keeping with the fine black cross-hatching on the paint, went with some "matching" carbon parts.
Still heavy, but rides pretty well.
10-sp Centaur front-rear, Campagnolo Bullet wheels. In order to fit, dropped the Campy Ti seatpost for the Thomson. Dropped the Regal for
the Prologo, which fits me. FSA's crankset has the same carbon weave as the Bullet wheels and the black sections of the frame, and the bottle
cage. Perhaps an older Bontrager seat post is in order, but it would have to be zero-setback. Note the medium cage RD, if I want to go wide rear.

Saw this today. It's dated 1984 for their 30th anniversary. I always thought the Nuevo mexico had been released by then.

Posted this up because I have an early 80's colnago mexico and have never been able to pinpoint a year. I was thinking 81-82, but seeing this ad, I'm not so sure its not 83 or 84. I was under the impression that while the super remained essentially the same, the mexico was replaced by the nuevo mexico.

I picked this one up a couple years ago. It's currently totally disassembled and I'm debating getting it repainted. Some say it's a '72, others say it's a '73. It's either a late '72 or early '73 as I see it.

My early birthday gift from my wife. Shocked my socks off. I had no idea. Looks like an '82 maybe. Repaint at some point, but a pretty nice job, not perfect. There were a few small bubbling/rust issues that I've begun to address, bit of "patina" on the fork crown. Swapped the Cinelli 64 bars for 66's, Concor Colnago branded saddle. Had to rebuild the pantographed SL pedals, including new cups for the drive side. Got in a quick 12 miles today and couldn't stop smiling. Rides like, well, I don't have to tell the Colnago crowd how it rides...

DO and Fork numbers.
Spool bridge with little paint boo-boo.
Pump peg. Added at time of refinish?
I'll try to get some better shots of the assembled bike up tomorrow.
Enjoy.

I'm not normally a fan of yellow, but that shade, matched with the white panels and black detail painting is perfect. That's simply a beautifully turned-out bike. The Colnago-branded Concor is the cherry on top

What color is that?
what color is that? I have a 1976 Super that I think is very close to that color. But, the lighting in your photo is making it hard to tell. The lighting BTW is very nice. Not a photographer but I can appreciate the photo.
