My wife also rode a Biria City bike for a few years. The Nexus 3 is pretty reliable. Easy to change the rear cog if you want different gearing. I once, for some reason, took it apart And managed to get it back working again. It will slip on steeper hills, like the kind you have to stand to pedal on. I found after some research, that is normal.

I rode 26 miles today during a brief gap in the rain. The awful weather here in Virginia continues. 53 degrees and windy with occasional light drizzle today. More heavy rain predicted the next two days. Saw this cool Fiat near the end of the ride. Too bad I rode pretty much my only non Italian bike today.

Normally this dumpster find only get used when it's raining and/or in winter. Did a much needed service and took her out at the dawn on a beautiful day.

This frame is surprisingly responsive. I imagine the cross over seatstays help with rigidity. It's over 30 years old but still going strong. Going by some of the shipping stickers on the frame it has been all over Europe. Makes you wonder why more bikes aren't framed likewise.

Working from home now, I actually have time to ride in the middle of the day during my lunch break. I ride a gravel/dirt/grass loop around two local lakes, and now that Spring has settled in, there are some stunning backgrounds to photograph against. Here are a couple from yesterday's ride:

I went to visit a buddy out in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn on Monday. A nice 71 mile NYC ride in gorgeous weather.

Saw my share of birds today, osprey, pelicans, geese, turkey with chicks and this heron that had just caught a huge rat. He swallowed it before i could get my camera out.

The Great Blue Herons have been busy in the field next to our house catching gophers! I'm guessing it's nesting season and they have chicks to feed.

My wife brought home a Yorkie terrier. He had issues with me having any contact with her. I was out with him in the garden and he just layed down, looking at a gopher hole. That gopher peeked out and he nailed him. We were best buds ever since.

Yesterday, actually - drove up to Cementon, PA to ride the Delaware and Lehigh trail. Excellent. Cool clear morning, almost no breeze and bright sun out from under the thick forest. Follows the Leigh River, following the west bank. Very few other trail users and all were behaving nicely, respecting the space of other users. An assault on the senses - sight, sound, smell, feel. Crystalline river thru the trees, birds everywhere, flowering trees and plants, hum of the tires.

This section of the trail has a lot of screenings from the coal industry, even finer than screenings. When dry and hard, like yesterday, it's fast, real fast. Just the sort of stress relief I needed. 15 miles north, U turn and 15 miles back. Wonderful how easy that was.




Dropped '95 Trek 850. Yes that''s my "clown bike horn". Its very effective, gets a lot of smiles and the kids love it. I like the Deore thumbies mounted at the drops. Lovely machine.

I rode my Raleigh for a short 16 mile ride after work. It was 80 degrees and a breezy. I chose a short loop I usually do in the winter to see how fast I could make it on the 3 speed. It was kind of a humbling experience. I suffered on the hills.

After I took this picture I saw a turkey vulture perched on a fence post 50 yards down the road. It didn't fly away until I was about 5ft from it.

These Oast houses with the typical conical roof are common in Kent, U.K. Hops were dried in these buildings for the brewing process. They have their own quirky charm & are popular for house conversions.

Didn't ride anyplace special yesterday. Ellen and I just puttered around town a bit. The rear wheel on my Dawes kept slipping though, so I kept stopping to snug up the quick release. "Man, this skewer must really be worn. I better swap in something better when we get home." So, that's what I tried to do. Unfortunately, after unscrewing the skewer nut and pulling out the skewer, I was left with a bit more than I was expecting...

I finally installed a handlebar shim I waited three weeks to arrive, so was confident taking the Creme Caferacer Uno out for its first longer ride, and ended up doing 29 miles to and from a very special place in the countryside near Ivanhoe. When I first began wandering around the San Joaquin Valley to satisfy bouts of wanderlust a few years ago, I was puttering around in an old Mercedes 240D, and came upon this place without having any idea of its existence. It motivated me to continue exploring the valley and from there I ended up becoming a dedicated bird watcher and returning to college for a second degree in Natural Resource management.

Today I found a whole herd of cows out, a surprising amount of water in the pond, and a Canada goose with a bunch of her goslings!

Played around a bit before heading into the city yesterday. Just a nice trip along the docks on a variety of terrain.
Rotterdam has some pretty cool cycle paths along the harbour though it isn't always the easiest route to follow.
