Trip to Bainbridge Island from Seattle. Lovely day especially on the ferries. The views were great both ways

Thanks. This person was not close, and was antagonistic to my sector of care at many points. That said he was a local institution in research and teaching and the loss is so needless. We have one of our nurses in care from covid now too. I makes Mondays a nerve wracking day every week. Stay safe out there.

My sweetie and I took our tandem out for the first time in many months, about two miles around the neighborhood. Just as the covid thing hit we had taken a spill in which Sharon was injured slightly, and what with her recovery and the uncertainty of how to stay healthy neither of us has ridden at all since then. My bike commuting stopped because I'm working from home. So today's excursion on a very windy day is a step forward. Yay!

Started out intending to be a recovery ride. Not sure if 40 fixed gear miles counts as recovery, no matter if it's on a MUP or not.

My wife and I did 30 miles of rail trail from the Tarrytown Lakes up past the Croton Reservoir.. She took a spill unclipping about 7-8 miles from the end but rocketed back to make it to our car "before it started to hurt".

Did the ride I always do in the mornings, along the Clovis MUT. Pretty flat here in California's central valley, the only hill is when the trail goes under a road. But just east of us it does get a bit steep.

Lots of chasing, as it was a real screwy day. I rode about 80 miles of it solo, chasing every which way.
Began with a modern stem failure before inch 1, then a 60-mile truck dash to swap my Ironman
for a Colnago

Started out about 18 miles behind, and only made up 9 by the (sort of) end to the day, when others were at 82, me at 73.
When others went out/back to get their 100, I had to go, uh, "way out and back," and missed a turn for the 2nd time.
Still, a good time was had by all, and there was cold beer at the end, which I used for breakfast and lunch.
Not sure how it chemically reacts with Gatorade. I celebrated with a thickburger from Hardees, and immediately regretted it. Not the flavor, the effect.
Rolling in at the end.

Took my recently completed Covid Clunker 100 bike Schwinn Messa GSX for a good test ride first good riding day in about a week. Only 12 miles or so 300 feet up Beaver Ridge road and back by Beaver Creek road 5 miles of washboard gravel. Bike held up great everything tight and wheels still true at end of ride. Actual rides climes fairly nice for mid level MTB from the 90's that curbs at 28-29 pounds.

I tried out these new shoes today for the first time. Stiff and light with very subtle leather. I opted for the touring model. Proou Mexico. Could use a little more cush on the sole. I forgot to take a picture wearing them.

These food carts must have a fire going, ‘cause they smell gooooood!
I brought my own water, but this guy shuffled over and put his fire out with one of these Benson Bubblers!
Well, you can’t see it behind that big, ol’ thumb shifter, but this is ground zero for many of the protests. This is the temporary Stag statue that an artist made to replace the real one that was put in storage after someone lit a fire under it.
This is clearly an anarchist work crew because the traffic guy has a bicycle water bottle cage bolted to his stop sign post! He must have chucked the bottle into the fire.
Leg hairs singed, heading home.

The Daily Double, PNW style
@northbend was looking for a midnight ride up McKenzie Pass under a full moon. It's a climb from Sisters, Oregon, not a terribly long or difficult one, but the lava field at the pass is something to be seen, along with the Dee Wright Observatory, hewn from lava rock. Several weeks ago we tried to do the Columbia River Gorge ride, but it was closed off. Lately the road has opened back up, so why not do both in one day?
So yesterday we met up in Troutdale, right next to the Sandy River and rode the Gorge via Hwy 30 and the MUP associated with it to "the stairs", it was getting hot so we turned around there and returned to our cars.
Horsetail Falls
After cooling off in the Sandy River, we drove separately to Sisters (damn COVID). had a nice dinner outdoors and socially distanced, then went to a local campground to set up for the night.
After a short nap, a full moon filled the sky. We mounted back up and rode to McKenzie Pass
base of the Dee Wright Observatory
It was pretty spooky riding up, about halfway we turned off our lights and could still see pretty well. Matt took a lot more pictures than I did, hopefully he'll post them here. Here's one in the "natural light" around 1am:
Rode back to the campsite in about a quarter of the time it took to climb up to the pass, hit the hay around 0230, and crashed. Just after dawn we packed up and drove back to Portlandia and North Bend, WA on separate routes.
Pretty damned tired from the extra long day, two rides, and a 3 hour drive between, but options for adventure are somewhat limited in a pandemic, so we did the best we could.
