Just met up with my sister and went for a real quick, 6 mile out 'n back ride, out in West Creek Pkwy business complex, west of Richmond, VA. My sister has one of those ladies "townie" bikes as she calls it, and is only a 6 or 7 speed. 9-10 mph is about all she does, so that was fine. I kept my C&V '85 Fuji on the lower front crank (42T) and the rear 22T (3rd sprocket) on the Suntour freewheel. I pedaled, coasted, pedaled, coasted, etc... and just enjoyed the ride...

6 mile out 'n back, 37:44 time, 9.6 mph...

Edit: Sorry... I shouldn't talk like this, after 35 wonderful years, but I'm just one of those husbands, who's wife just WILL NOT go out riding. It takes an act of God, just to get her to go 1½ miles around the neighborhood.

Northern Indiana 100k loop south of Valparaiso today.

Strong winds from the North were nice at the start as I headed downstate, but I paid for it on the way back, spinning in my 30x16 gear. Couldn't find anywhere to get water for the last 20 miles, so got very parched and lightheaded. Didn't find anyone out on their porch to ask for water until the last mile before where my car was parked. Asked anyway, and they generously gave me some bottled water. When prompted, I told them I was finishing up 60 miles. "Why go that far?" -- "Something to do," was all I could muster as I spilled water all over my face guzzling it down.

Starting to get a fall-feeling in the midwest, chillier in the morning. Huge golden eagles circling overhead, winds rustling the dry corn leaves. Yep, Indiana all right.

Morning ride yesterday in an effort to avoid the worst of our current heat wave. 60 degrees f. when I left at 8AM. It was 90 degrees when I returned home 48 miles and 3 1/2 hours later.
You can see from this first photo that I wasn't the only turkey out there.

Some haze in the air from our numerous wildfires but not so bad as it has been recently.

A couple of days' riding in Vermont, mix of dirt and quiet paved back roads:

Most of the dirt roads were in great shape.

I spent a lot of time crossing the Battenkill.

Chatting with the locals.

Kids were floating on inner tubes just upstream.

Small farms still exist all over Vermont.

The old North Bennington Depot, currently town offices.

Chased my shadow home.

I was testing a Brooks B17 Flyer converted to an Imperial by rhm. Thanks Rudi, it felt really good!

Enjoying all your photos of riding. Not getting out today. Smoke blew into the Willamette Valley starting late yesterday afternoon through overnight. Air quality pretty quickly went into the unhealthy range. Strong winds moving some growing fires in the state.

Afternoon Update: Definitely inside for now. Keeping the people on the other side of the valley in my thoughts, several small towns burned down and more evacuating.

Pit stop on the bridge over the Sangamon River (Sangamon Valley Trail.) The potential for rain made for some pleasant views.

The tail end of my Raleigh Super Course Mk II at the site of my nature break, by the bridge over Pargey Creek on Swedesboro Ave, Gloucester County NJ. It was the only secluded spot I could find without weeds (habitat for chiggers).

It seems I left the PNW at just the right time. It may be hot down here in AZ, but I'm not missing the smoke from the wildfires.

Anyway, after a flat and rescue on my first ride I finally got in about 25 miles this afternoon. A combination of road and New River Trail riding which took me to the terminus of the Arizona Canal Trail. I'll be taking that out to points east in the next couple days.

No problem acclimating to the heat on the bike, but that's probably because I've spent a goodly portion of each day of this past week doing some yard maintenance. Work like mad, sweat like mad, jump in pool; repeat

Lovely but, eeee gads, the heat. I'm so spoiled as our trails are 80 to 90% shaded. Pretty pleasant on even the most hot and muggy days. My kingdom for a tree. Stay hydrated and healthy.

Pretty smoky here. No fires closeby, but a Westerly wind brings us smoke. I just got in a quick 11 mile post office run in on the '78 Peugeot up thru Porter Ranch and Granada Hills. Good day to stay in and watch Le Tour.

DD, good to see someone else down here enjoying the weather! No joke, today and yesterday were the best days we've had since April. I've ridden about 50 miles in the past two days, mostly in a good ride before work.

I live in the east Valley, and the network of bike lanes and trails here is good enough that I pretty much stay over here. I think 12th Street is the furthest west I've taken my bike, so I've never ridden in the areas you were in. I was on the Arizona Canal trail on Sunday, but upstream in Scottsdale.

If you're up for some sunrise riding on the weekend, let me know if you'd like a guide for some of the East Valley trails. This time of year, I do all my leisure rides before the sun gets strong.

Rode around my hotel in DC a little bit. Just so I could make some adjustments to the POS I rented to bike around while I am in town.
Not super enthused about this bike or there would be pictures haha.
Will try and post pics of my ride around the National Mall later, tho.

I guess my invite to the house warming party got held up by USPS (or the governor of AZ cancelled it because it was going to be too large). When did you move?

That NE corner of CT is a fun area to ride; hilly and rural.

Yes, superb conditions. I was running 32mm tires, skinniest among the group and would have liked a bit wider!
