^You'd be the Yao Ming of hobbits!

Group ride tonight. Lacking some high end spunk due to last week's training slump. It should come back quick, though. Legs felt great sitting in a paceline, and I felt fine up into z3. Anything above hurt much more than usual though.

HR started dropping towards the end of the ride even though it was relatively short (~2hrs). Trying to figure out why, as I think I've eaten enough and I've been sleeping well. I suppose it could be due to my body needing to get used to high stress again, as this was the hardest ride I've done in a week.

edit: the ride was harder than I thought. 42mi, 2:02, 4000ft of climbing. I suppose that isn't too bad considering I don't feel tip top.

Worked pretty hard. Got a talking too about jumping too hard trying to get a break going. Twice I dangled out solo off the front with no one wanting to go.

did 38 miles today, as openers for tomorrow's crit. I think i went a bit too hard, but oh wells, i felt good after 3 out of the 4 last days i spent resting. I'm super stoked for another race... not that the results matter or anything being cat5 and all, but it's one step closer to 4.

I did the Friday Week 9 Race Tune Up ride from the Coggan/ Allen book. Essentially, "go super easy except for three 1m efforts all out (followed by 5 easy minutes) and three 30s efforts all out (followed by 5 easy minutes)." Took 1 hr 10 min total. Funniest stat: Avg power = *92* watts; Norm power = *210* watts.

Entire workout (92 watts):
Duration: 1:10:18 (1:10:19)
Work: 390 kJ
TSS: 82.4 (intensity factor 0.838)
Norm Power: *210*
VI: 2.27
Pw:HR: n/a
Pa:HR: n/a
Distance: 16.761 mi
Min Max Avg
Power: 0 1226 *92* watts
Cadence: 26 193 76 rpm
Speed: 0 42.6 14.3 mph
Pace 1:25 0:00 4:12 min/mi
Hub Torque: 0 214 37 lb-in

Tomorrow: fast group ride!

port of oakland ride for me. Was enjoying the first hour. Closed a few gaps, I think I chopped someone's wheel in a turn (I waved my hand after and apologized out loud -- my bad, guy).

Unfortunately some guys went down in front of me. As the rider ahead of me cut out hard I saw the wreck....and then I ran over the wreck and did little endo onto a downed rider. Fortunately I was unhurt. I put my chain back on, straightened out my bars and got back on the bike. A little blood on the knee, wrist is a little sore, and I had a n00b tatoo on my FOREARM. I did another lap with the group before a train stopped us. Talk about a sign the ride is over.

Funny thing is, the rider in front of me who cut out hard was circling the wreck afterward and wouldn't shut his mouth. Some comment about beating someone up if he'd wrecked, *****ing about bike handling, just in general bad form. I told him to shut it, but I'm not even sure if he heard me. It was clear he was a ***** and terrified of wrecking. That adrenaline got him riled up and being the immature gent that he was, started yelling at no one in general, but everyone at the same time.

I could identify him, but I won't. He's on a big team, though, and I'm not sure all those guys even know each other.

Took a prime at the training crit tonight. It was really good training for setting up a sprint.
I've been really aggressive in these last 2 training crits I've done to get a good workout in and learn to stay at the front.

Big race on sunday, and state championships next weekend. Hoping to do well in both.

*fingers crossed*

Ha! Not this time.
Yesterday morning and this morning I was barely pedaling. Nothing in the big ring, even down hill. I coasted a lot and waited at stop lights - even on empty 4:30am roads. Totally relaxing.

Tomorrow will be a little different. And Saturday (if I can make it. I'm going to a country western concert with my wife Friday night. she's a hick, you know) will be a "Fredalicious" benefit ride our team sponsors.

Even though the legs don't feel all that bad, today is a rest day.

Minus core work.

I've been having a lot of fun with short sprints started from 100rpm+ at the bottom of a hill. Feels very snappy.

Took a much needed rest day yesterday while I put together a "new" bike.

I'll see how it does in tonight's training crit.

Went to Nashville Speedway last night. Spent most of the 2 hours in a cornering clinic and a contact clinic. Learned a couple of things. Had 15 minutes of track time left so I warmed up for 5 and hurt myself for 10 minutes including a few sprints down the homestretch and a simulated breakaway effort. Boy do I suck

This morning had to cut my ride short due to another flat (second in a week). Grrr...still got in 39 minutes of tempo. But I'm getting quicker at getting that back wheel off, fixed and back on again!

Been stuck in the lab until after 5 all week, no way I could get there in time.

Maybe next week?

Yeah it is fun. Plus, no grades, not much wind, I feel that the power numbers calculated from these rides by SportTracks is probably in the right zip code (less instantaneous stomps and such). Wish I could get there more than once a month!

A day of just-right tension, containment and early afternoon heat. Kept it in the big ring so I would feel constant pressure on my muscles and not let them get lazy, but, would not allow myself to spin up hard and explode to keep the big efforts in the tank. And, the forecast calls for upper 90s on Saturday, so, I'm riding in the afternoon high heat to make it as just-another-day as possible.
