Tire size for a Shimano WH-RX31 wheelset?

Does anyone own and use a set of WH-RX31 wheels? If so, what tire sizes does the rim safely allow?

The website from which I purchased a set today lists the size range as being 25C-38C, however the Shimano spec sheet, (i.e., DM-WH0003-03-ENG.pdf, "Cross bike wheel set Dealer's Manual"), shows 23C-32C. Those of you who run this wheelset, what do you use?

Thanks.

p.s. Almost done with my frame build. Just need a longer rear skewer, tweak the geometry, and wrap the bars. The above WH-RX31 wheelset will be an additional wheelset with different tires for a different use.

The RX31 wheelset uses 24 mm (external) rims, probably ~20 mm (internal).

The rule of thumb is double the internal width for max tire size (so 40 mm tires would be the sensible limit, by that reasoning).

Sheldon Brown has good advice on this, as usual (scroll down to "Width Considerations"). Note that he says you can safely exceed these recommendations.

I currently run 60 mm tires on 19 mm internal rims without any problems. A wider rim holds a wider tire more securely over a wider range of pressures, but a narrow rim usually works just fine.

Thanks Tim. That makes sense. When the wheels are delivered, I'll put them up against my metric ruler and go by that.

'Good luck' tonight. The dance begins.
