Any way to show my location in Garmin app?
That's about it... Just want something to show where I am when looking at a route in Garmin Connect.

Ok so no responses. Is there another way to do it? If I export the course, can I import it as an overlay in another app that can also show my location WRT that course?

The Garmin phone App is designed to work with their devices. It isn't intended for live routing and tracking AFAIK. But I've never really tried since I have a GPS/cyclometer.

I imagine the o.p. knows this. What they want is a workaround. Garmin is not about to knowingly make it possible for people to avoid buying their GPS computers. I don't have the hubris to imagine I am smarter than their product developers.

You can imagine what you want. You should leave me out of it and just answer the OP's question.

You could enable Live Track and send a link to your own e-mil, maybe, not sure Garmin will do that, or a different e-mail you have access to, then go to that email and click the LT link.

Steve B. But then his cell phone would use more battery which is an issue in another thread they've posted.

I’m not understanding the initial reason. He does not state what Garmin device he is using, but any of the cycling units 530/830/1040 show your position on a map in screen. Alternative is to use to simultaneously track with a different app, such as RideWithGPS, which will show your position on a phone screen map.
