Continental Ultra Sport II tires?

Are they too cheap to be decent? For just a nothing special tire they are pretty cheap to get in a folder for usually a pair shipped to your house under $40. That seems to be a pretty sweet deal considering all the folding tires at my LBS for a 700X25 are easily $30+.

Just wondering if anyone is running them on a daily rider or training bike and if they have had any major issues with them.

Here is just one of the many listings from e bay:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/2018-Contin...c/273616427398

thanks

NO issues, great tire, nice supple sidewalls and smooth ride; but I wouldn't run 25mm anything by choice. Currently running these in 27x1/14 (32mm), love em!

They are great for the money. But I would consider them light to medium duty tires. I did get a flat once that was more of a cut than a puncture. I ran over some kind of metal strap and it left a centimeter cut in the tire. I had to purchase another one. But if your roads are in rather good condition I would get them and ride on...

I've had them on my Trek 560 for a year now and have had no issues. Good grip in the dry. No idea in damp. Running 700x23.

Do it! Finally a "decent tire" thread that I can speak to (being excessively cheap), because that's a great price and those are nice rolling tires!

I have a set, I ended up moving to gator skins as I ended up with a lot of flats. Spent a lot of time committing on local bike trails so the was a fair amount of glass and other debris.

Ended up wearing through one of the gator skins and have gp4000's on now with no trouble after a thousand or so miles.

The ultra sports ride pretty well but seem better suited to cleanish roads.

Same experience. They have good road feel, but pick up debris pretty easy.

Another satisfied customer here. I've got the 28mm tires on old 27" narrow rims. They ride great. They don't have the puncture resistant layer, but I don't think they've been any more flat-prone than any other conventional tire I've used. Great value. I put them on a bike I threw together, just to see if I'd enjoy riding it, and I think I'm getting close to 2000 miles on them.

I'm echoing everything that's been said before; for $20, it's a pretty good tire.
They ride like a more expensive tire.

Conti Ultra Sport II are the best bargain in road tires I've tried (equal to Conti SpeedRides, the best hybrid tire I've ridden). I've ridden 'em in 700x23 and 700x25, folding and wire bead, since January 2018.

I use 'em on my Cycleops trainer and outdoor rides. No need to change wheels/tires. They wear just fine on both.

They don't flat any more than other road slicks I've used. I had maybe two flats last year. None so far this year (knock wood and my skull).

I usually go for the 700x25 on the older steel road bike for less than perfect roads, especially chipseal. Tire pressure around 85-90 psi rear, 70-75 psi front (I weigh around 150 lbs).

They aren't the fastest, lightest or most supple tires, but I'd need to spend twice as much or more to get significantly better tires. I'll keep buying these as long as Conti makes 'em. Same for the Speed Rides.

One more for the road.

Been using the Ultra Sport tires in 25 and 28mm for years without any complaints. Very good tire at a reasonable price.

I even tried a set of Conti Ultra Sport II 700x25 on my hybrid a few months ago. That bike weighs about 30 lbs (with pump, saddle bag, U-lock, water bottle). I normally use Conti Speed Rides on that bike.

I wouldn't have expected much difference but it really felt lighter and livelier. I'd consider a set of 700x28 or x32 for that bike if I didn't occasionally ride gravel.

But the Speed Rides are so good I prefer them on the hybrid.

BTW, occasionally a group ride will divert to our mostly groomed gravel/chat trails. Or flooding will cover the pavement with thick silt/clay. That happened on a 35 mile group ride Thursday, which diverted to a few intermittent miles off pavement.

Even the skinny 700x25 Ultra Sport II tires have been oh-kay for modest off-pavement rides. I reduce the pressure. Helps. Still no flats this year.

Much better than the similarly priced Vittoria Zaffiros I started with on my steel road bike. Those things were harsh at full pressure, sluggish at comfortable pressure, cut easily and had poor grip.

They're okay. Nothing special but can't say they're bad. They're a standard middle of the road tire with OK puncture protection and OK road feel.

They are a cheap tire made by a decent brand who makes quality tires. Nothing special about them but a tire that you can replace often for the price (not that that is a good option). However 25s are terrible all across the board unless that is literally the absolute widest you can fit. 28s or wider have changed my life and I can't imagine going back.

I had the 27x1-1/8" on my old Peugeot. Great tire for the money, I'd definitely buy again.

I've gotten them as original equipment on low-to-mid level road bikes and have ridden them. Nothing special, as they wear relatively quickly and then become flat prone. Wear 'em out and toss them. So, I would not purchase one new for any of my bikes. There are better tires available.

For the money they are an excellent tire. They are not puncture -resistant, so if you tend to get a lot of flats or ride construction zones or something .... I have them in 23 and 28 (they run a little wide) and i like them a lot. For the price you can afford to buy three and get good performance and the same life as a tire costing a lot more.

arrived, they seem pretty decent for under 20$ a tire. I think for my needs they will be just fine!

I'm in the 'too many flats' category.
Cheap tires spoil my riding experience.
The soft rubber gives a nice grippy feel initially,
but prone to cuts and picking up everything on the road.
Also wears fast.

My experience is based on one set, but matches many others.
Never again. IMHO, a poor choice - even at 2 for $25usd

What's the old truism = Better to ride a crappy frame with excellent wheels/tires, than an excellent frame with crappy wheels/tires.

Recommend nice tubulars. Vittoria, Specialized or Veloflex - my personal favorites.

I bought a set with the intention of putting them on next time I change tires. Same reasoning, decent price for a couple of tires(I think I paid around $30 for 2 including shipping) . I haven't used them yet, but good to hear they are OK. I also got a good deal on some Pasela Panaracer tires for my 27" wheel bikes and I LOVE those tires! A couple of hundred miles and no flats. These are more of a tread type tire but very smooth to ride on. I did the Eroica California with no issues. I paid just a little more than I paid for the Conti's. Joe
