Is it ok to race badly?

Is it ok to race badly?
I've been thinking to try Folsom Rodeocross this fall, because it looks like fun, it's inexpensive and local. Thing is, I'm a recent heart surgery patient, probably lifetime on a beta blocker, and in shape that you might call rounded... and none of these things are likely to change. Is it ok to go out and race in the beginner class or wherever they decide to shuffle me, with no real hope or intention of moving up?
I used to race R/C cars, and I knew there were people who could out-skill me even at the local level. But I'm not sure that's really comparable, I could always buy more horsepower but it wouldn't necessarily win me races.

The way I've heard it there is only one winner, so what do the others do? They try to take turns.

Yes! Rodeocross is a blast and a half! Absolutely you should do it.

I think cyclocross is the one cycling discipline that is 100% tailor made for this. Not only will it be acceptable, you will likely quickly become a crowd favorite if you stop for a beer/brat handup at the bottom of every hill and take a breather 
Aside from that, in my experience, the front, or even the middle of a cat 5 race is much, much faster than many would imagine, but it becomes quite tame relatively speaking at the tail end of the race. As long as you think you can actually complete the race, IE keep riding for the course for the allotted time, even if you take a couple breaks for handups, I wouldn't think twice about signing up. You'll have a blast, and probably make a couple friends fighting to avoid DFL

The scoring is so casual at Rodeocross, that you might as well
1: win
2: come in last place.
3: both at the same time
Nobody else cares. If you ARE fast enough to care ( can you hang with Clint Claassen, Cody Kaiser or Nathan Barton?), then you will be able to check and confirm your results. If you can't hang, then be thankful that nobody knows where you really finished.
