Youngster Kicked My Butt !

Yesterday, I went riding with my 19 year old grandson. He's 6' 5", absolutely ZERO fat.

For 30 miles, he blew me away....... I'm glad he had mercy, and stayed with me!

just wish my grandson rode... he is more into trucks and girls... someday maybe...
I am faster than my son... but if he ever loses all the extra fat he is carrying around, I likely will not be.

That's your thinking... Maybe it went more like this... 30 miles he cant loose you, you stayed with him... At least that hopefully is what I would be thinking...

I should be able to clean his clock! I mean, I've got 50 years of experience on him, and probably 70 pounds. The downhills alone should keep him at bay!

He should be gasping for breath.................

And, he never broke a sweat, and talked the whole time! Sheeesh!

But you can probably kick butt on plenty of 19 year olds who aren't so extremely fit, so there's that.

He's 6'5 and skinny? If the bike fits him, forget it.....he's gone.

I can think of few greater joys in life than getting to ride with my kids and grandkids (someday for me). As for keeping up, I am equally looking forward to the day that happens only with their help.

I went mountain biking with my son a few years ago. We went down a long steep hill through a field. I stayed on the brakes most of the way while my don judt let it rip doing over 25 mph over rocks, dry creek beds, and even small branches. He said let my montenum and the bike carry me over everything - relax and have fun!

That's the difference with age. I can keep up on the flats and uphill but not when agility, flexibility and nerve matters.

I would not complain about getting your butt kicked by your youngster. I really, really hate it when the little old ladies, of which there are several in out club, blow by, neither breathing hard or breaking a sweat, while going up hill.

I do many outdoor activities, and it strikes me as weird that this one seems to be the only one where many people treat it as a competition. I can't imagine trying to 'beat' my friend hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing or even cross-country skiing - we're out there to enjoy an activity together. (It may also be the only one where middle-aged men dress up like the pro's, but that's another story).
