Schwinn Super Sport 1974-ish
Wondering if this bike is worth fixing up or worth anything at all? It's pretty dusty and rusty =) Paperwork says it was purchased in 1974 - not sure if that's also the model year. This won't let me attach photos because I'm new? Does anyone know how to remedy that?

Rusty? Probably not. Do you have the time/tools/aptitude/workshop space/pile of parts to do the work yourself? Otherwise, sell it as a project.

Frame is definitely a little rusty. I can sell as a project - didn't know if even then how to price it. I live in a small market and was considering just donating it somewhere also.

Maybe spam your own thread? I've seen that done before.
Super Sports are nice bikes. Better frame than varsity and continentals, though they look like them. If you google schwinn serial numbers you should be able to find out what particular year it was built if you wanted to know.

What color is it? Did you find the serial number? On my Schwinn it is right on the front under the headbadge.

You can easily get to ten posts by just checking things out and jumping in but there is also a 5 post a day limit until you do reach that as I understand.
It's not hard. But it was done because we had a huge problem here with spammers a couple-three years ago. And the owners of the site also own several other sites with discussion forums, this platform, while vBulletin, is a version they use on those sites only (and they own vB).

I have a few 70’s Schwinn’s and would like to add a super sport. Stick with us here and post pics of your bike so we can see the condition. Welcome to the forums. Kevin.

Note that the serial no. on these bikes only indicates when the headtube was stamped, which was often years before it was brazed into a frame and built up as a bike. I have two '74 Super Sports and they have '72 and '73 headtube stamps. The only way to properly date these bikes is to check out things like paint color and components, assuming of course that they are original.

Based on the components I see it does appear to be a '72 model. For further confirmation the hubs, crank and fork will have date code stamps but the latter two will need to be removed to see them. Pics of the derailleurs would be helpful but other than the incorrect saddle and missing brake extension levers and toe clips/straps it does appear to be original. Because of the condition and missing Brooks B15 saddle I'd estimate the value at around $100 to maybe $150. Strange that it would have sat around the dealership for two years given that was the peak of the bike boom, at that time Schwinn dealers generally sold most of the inventory they had the instant it arrived.

Not bad! Sadly I am not an expert on prices, but if you have a chance to take a picture from the side with the chain on it, that would help other people figure it out. Also, could you say where you are as that would affect prices too. Where I live a used road bike would be asking at least $100 USD on craigslist, generally speaking.

I live near Orlando, FL - not a huge bike market here that I can tell, but really I just wanted to do it justice and not donate it. It is my uncle's and he loved it for many years. He's blind now and struggling with not being able to do the things he loves. I wanted to show him that keeping it and keeping it in relatively good shape paid off by selling it for him! I think he'd be happy to see it has some value and that someone wants it.
