Things Drivers Say After They Do Stupid ****

This morning I was riding in on a four-lane road and a lady turned in from the far side-street, cut into the right lane next to me, then immediately right-hooked across my bow toward a private parking lot drive. Fortunately I was alert and managed to brake in time, while emergency turning into the drive with her to narrowly avoid being flung into her rear window.

I then confronted her at her parking spot (middle-aged blond businesswoman):

"Do you realize that you just cut me off and practically ran me over, when I absolutely had the right-off-way?"
"I had my turn signal on."
"You still had your left turn signal on, and I had the right-of-way no matter what."
"I was worried about pissing off the other drivers if I slowed them down."
"So you'd rather kill a biker with your car than inconvenience the other drivers."
"No, I don't want to kill bikers, but......"

shake it off, deep breaths, she doesn't sound so bad, aside from almost killing you

At least she wasn't driving a commercial tanker truck. You'd be out a bike, and she'd be out of a job.

I got *almost* right hooked by a driver pulling into a parking lot - she stopped suddenly after she had passed me (expecting me to pass her on the right) but I had already done the emergency braking move and yelled at her. Get this - she claimed she had merged in *behind* me! She shouted from in front of me, that she hadn't passed me at all.

I was going into the same parking lot for a blood draw and I was afraid she might have been the nurse coming on duty... so I controlled my temper just in case.

Yeah, that is a consolation, that nice people kill bikers too. She did strike me as being pretty brazen: "oh yeah, I see you, but choose to run you over anyway."

I see more bike riders (not to be confused with cyclists) who do stupid stuff. Our city has bike ordinances, but they're never enforced unless something bad happens - and by then it's too late. There is discussion of adding bike lanes and bike racks to some of the downtown areas, but the business owners are opposed to it because all they know are the idiots who are constantly running their customers over and blocking the entrances to their stores.

I figure if there isn't any contact it doesn't count... no harm, no foul. And watch out for nurse Ratchet.

Was it a hospital-issued car? His superior bike-handling skills cheated him out of a possible payday against that rather well-paid (I hope) nurse and or the hospital. I always say, if you're gonna get hit by someone, have it be a business vehicle.

It wasn't a hospital, it was an office building with a small medical clinic in it. Lady probably had the good insurance so it probably would've covered liability, but she probably wasn't covered under her employer's auto insurance... I don't even know if she worked there.

Well...if she “had her blinker on”, she can turn whenever, and wherever she wants without looking, right **********

I'm actually happy to hear that one, as long as no contact was involved.

I was rear ended in my car by a beer truck. We were leaving a parking lot stopped at the light. Beer truck was also stopped but suddenly lurched like his foot slipped off the clutch and he hit me. He had great insurance but (un)fortunately not much damage was done. I wouldn't have even filed a claim, but the guys first response was whining that "I'm going to have to take a drug test" instead of asking "Are you guys OK?".

That's funny. Guy probably passed his drug test with flying colors, he was just really hung-over from too much "product".

The difference though is that bike riders who do stupid stuff don't kill other people. Drivers do.
