I have a Giant Farrago with "Clydesdale-friendly" indestructible rims that my local lbs put together for me. ARC lithium headlight and rechargeable 9v geek strobe light off the back. This is my year round commuter, so in the winter, I put studded nokian tires on it. Heavy as all get out, but gets me where I need to go.
I introduced my son to winter riding on the weekend. Here he is with his old mountain bike after a tour through the neighbourhood.
All good!

Here is me and my "MagicCarpet" with home made studded tires on a frozen pond vacated by hockey players!
The traction was amazing no slippage whatsoever able to turn circles tighter than riding in the summer on normal trails.
Temperature about -12C windchill -19C as you can see my beard froze as well as my drinking tube!

My current winter bike...a 1972 Phillip's 20 folder and I can't say enough times how much a fan I am of internal gear hubs.

I use a trike for winter riding. It won't go through a ton of snow or anything, but I can ride comfortably when it is pretty darn cold out for quite a distance. mine is the not yet painted pink bike.
I'm posting my summer ride as well to demonstrate slow bike vs fast bike.

i came home from work to find my bike in this condition....
thought of this section right away... makes a good winter pic ha! I locked my bike under my neighbours heating system and it dripped water on my brake lever all day.

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
I'm almost ready for next winter... a friend is giving me a Nexus 7 speed for the longbike and with that and some knobbier tyres and studs it should be an ideal winter ride.
My friend says his xtracycle is the best winter bike he has ever ridden due to it's excellent stability and traction and I expect my DIY bike to perform similarly well.
With the current heat wave I found myself wishing for much cooler temps.
