Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I recently saw the Giant Trinity triathlon bike.

The shifters on the ends of the bars make them look like some type of talking bird.

Yes, and all the win is in the Amazon reviews.

There are bikes in Taobao branded "titanium" when it is in fact not titanium.

Maybe next time somebody will have "carbon" or "carbon fibre" as a brand or name.

On a similar thought, Road Kill would probably not be a very inspiring brand name for a bicycle.

Worst names, oddly on great bikes, go to Trek. They take the same set of letters: a, e, d, m, n, o and start naming. I'm convinced it started as a challenge from the CEO. "Here, name every road bike with these letters. That's all ya get"

I was thinking the same thing. But then I figured it's really no worse than any other arbitrary code, like C60 or TCR. BMC probably have the smartest names. Kona have the dopiest.

How is C60 arbitrary? It is a letter and a number. Simple and clean.

German car models are also designated by a number and a letter (or letters). Again, simple and clean.

Asian and American car companies OTOH sometimes use the silliest, most inane naming schemes.

Looks like VTSP has come out with a few new models that could really use some reviews.

If you want an actual answer, the "Madone" was named for a mountain Lance Armstrong used to ride in training. Why they then named all their other bikes as anagrams, I have no idea.

LOL how is it not arbitrary? You just answered your own question, "it's a letter and a number". Right, that's called arbitrary!

Also, I love when companies try to come up with a "cool sounding" acronym by throwing words together, which ends up meaning nothing, or not making sense. Specialized "FACT" carbon, ooh! "Functional Advanced Composite Technology" lol, ok!

If you think C60 is arbitrary, then you are not familiar with Colnago bikes or the scheme used by Colnago to identify their bikes, especially the C series. You probably also think that C40, C50 and C59 are equally arbitrary.

Arbitrary (definition):

based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system: (Emphasis added).
"his mealtimes were entirely arbitrary"
synonyms: capricious · whimsical · random · chance · unpredictable · casual · wanton · unmotivated · motiveless · unreasoned · unsupported · irrational · illogical · groundless · unjustified · [more]
personal · discretionary · subjective

antonyms: reasoned · rational

Good luck to you, ride safely.

The weight listed for that Cyrusher thing is 41lbs in a 56cm. How? Are the frame and wheels solid metal? My alloy fatbike weighs 10lbs less and it's not a particularly svelte model.

Question: Are those paddles on the bars the shifters?
Answer: No. They are flying levers. When you pull on those the thing flies.
