Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ion/magnet, copper bracelet

Anybody wear one? I have trouble with stiffness since back surgery last year. Couldn't lift weights for quite a while. Did some pushups just to keep up my strength and my wrists haven't been the same so I had to stop that. Science as best I can tell says that there is nothing to these bracelets however I've read reviews from many that say they work, perhaps only placebo effect, who knows. I see some of the cyclists in the professional peloton wearing one form or another. Any here have any experience with them?

They're woo. Pure. Unadulterated. woo.

Doesn't stop people great and small from believing in the hogwash however.

I knew several folks in the army who wore them in hopes of improving there PT test scores. If anything, they just added additional weight for the run. They do absolutely nothing.

There are many things that science cannot yet explain, perhaps this is one of them. If you believe it works it may work. It's not like a lobotomy; no harm in trying.

Unless the copper surface is lead paint...or similar such shenanigans. My favorite woo-based danger-product of recent times was this one:

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...rns/451183001/

There's a reason there's disclaimers on all these products about them not actually having any scientific or medically proven backing...because there isn't any. People have been hawking them for decades too.

I love the voodoo that dudes try to do right before a PFT or weigh in. Like wearing a magnet on your wrist is going to erase a year of eating like crap and being fat and lazy.

I'd try the yellow wristband before I went with an ion magnet bracelet. And I'd go with a POW/MIA bracelet long before I'd wear any of the others; that'd do more good. I do actually wear Road ID.

They are just as good as the magnetic water conditioner sold to the first owner of the house next door. When I found out she was charged $1,200 for an electromagnet placed around the incoming water pipe my first though was "classic elder abuse". She was smart enough to have run a Midwestern resort in her younger days but was illiterate when it came to science. Fortunately, the seller had violated Nevada statutes by selling an item door-to-door and writing a contract that was "non cancellable" in violation of the 3-day right of rescission. Had it not been for that, she would have been stuck with a worthless piece of $%^& and a credit card bill for $1,200. Sadly, you can sell something that is worthless for a lot of money and it is not a crime. Caveat Emptor!

If push-ups hurt your wrist, do them holding 5 lb dumbbells as handles, parallel to each other about the width of road handle bars.

So you are basically doing closed fist push-ups, but the dumbbells keep the pressure of the floor off your knuckles.

Hey thanks, that's a very good tip. At the moment, the way my wrists feel, I won't even be pushing away from the table but I will be trying your idea at some point.

Those bracelets are garbage. What you need is a Quartz Crystal pendant.

I used some leftover tinfoil and cardboard to create a makeshift Orgone Accumulator around my bike. It makes it tough to see, but the benefits have been spectacular. If I had cancer I'm sure it would be gone by now. So much Orgone is accumulating I'm thinking of building a Cloudbuster on a Burley trailer so I can control the weather and never have to ride in the rain again.

Oh my.

I wonder if the Road ID folks have considered offering their product as a magnetized copper bracelet.

Well thanks to modern materials science they could do it...Since copper is not naturally magnetic.

I had a VN vet climbing buddy who wore one, a bent piece of heavy wire, but his was a gift from the montagnards who gave it to him as a symbol of belonging to their tribe.

If you have stiffness problems, either cut back or increase the blue pill usage. Same for the sore wrists. All of that wrist action will have an effect on the stiffness situation.

I apologize Mods, I just couldn't resist! If you have to delete something, go ahead.
