Bike Locker Recommendations?

We’re looking to get a bike locker for our backyard, for protecting a pair of bikes from thieves (backyard break-ins targeting bicycles are a known phenomenon in these parts) and the elements (let’s keep rust away). Anyone have any particular (or general) recommendations?

We were about to take the plunge on a 2-bike unit from Madrax, but when we discovered that freight from Wisconsin to California would add another $500+ to the bill we decided to reevaluate our options.

Thanks in advance!

Why not put them in the garage?

buegelfrei,
I went to look at the Madrax website. WOW - with the floor option you get above $2,700 shipped.
You can get a lot of garden shed for that price. And a shed might be a bit more stealth.
Also the door on that locker appears to use strip steel in two places to keep the door closed.

Something like a locally available Knaack (Job) box (if big enough) won't be cheap, but those are built to defend themselves in a bad location.
They do come up used https://sfbay.craigslist.org/search/...k+box&sort=rel

But finding one big enough may be an issue. My road bike is 66" nose to tail if I don't turn the bars, and 56" if I turn them 90deg.

All the best

Barry

We ended up finding a used 2-bike Madrax unit on Facebook's Marketplace for $500. For the $2,700 we were balking at, I would have chosen a more cheerful color, but I won’t complain!

Thanks for the tip about Knaack.

My bikes aren't gardening equipment I keep them inside with me. Safer with .40 S&W, .30 Carbine, .308 and .223 protecting them in addition to the locks on the doors and windows and locks I can put on the bikes in the house. They want to steal a trowel or tomato cage go for it those aren't of much value to me (I also don't have a trowel or tomato cage in my tiny backyard) but my bikes are family and you don't put family outside in the heat and humidity and frigid temps.

No pictures from my backyard (it’s dark now anyway), but since your profile says you’re in the SF Gray Area and the seller is down by Watsonville (and appears to have four units left), here’s the listing: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...5002226571842/

FYI, the things weigh around 500 pounds, at least that’s what Madrax customer service told me. I can tell you that it was an adventure getting the thing off the back of cargo van.

Thanks for the link. You scored.
As for me, mine are babied and live indoors.
My 1979 Holdsworth has all original paint and no rust.

FYI if you need to move it rent a trailer. Low load height and you can winch the item into it.
