Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Any riders in Central Washington?

I may be moving to Chelan, Washington soon. I am curious if anyone is from there or knows any local bike clubs in Chelan or Wenatchee? Or even just some good rides to check out?

Once the snow is gone, do the ride up to Mission Ridge. It's an outstanding climb with terrific aesthetics in both directions.

A less climb-intensive ride can be had on the ride to/from Leavenworth.

No idea about group rides (I don't do them) but there's a lot of fantastic riding in your new neck of the woods. The Leavenworth -> Plain loop is a wonderful 45 mile ride, Icicle Road is beautiful from any starting point, it's an enjoyable ride over the Blewett Passes, there's an enjoyable 50 mile loop between Leavenworth and Wenatchee, I bet you can find good riding heading west from Chelan, and you aren't too far from the Methow Valley - Falls Creek Road is great, but kind of strenuous.

I'll have to check those out. Thanks. I do most of my riding solo anyways, but I figured if I'm moving to a new town where I don't know anyone, a local bike club would be a good social scene and I do enjoy the big group rides. I know there is a century ride out of Wenatchee later in the year that I will definitely do.

SIR is putting on another NW Crank riding festival centering around Wenatchee again this year, April 18-21.

They'll be posting links to all the routes with cue sheets, etc. Should give you some ideas.

If you ever head up to Spokane, Spokane Rocket Velo is a great group to ride with, and they put on quite a few races in the summer.
