It's far too hot for any smart animal to put it's paws on the asphalt.

Deer: brain for an animal the size of a rabbit in the body of an animal the size of a horse.
Me? bees, or any bug that ends up stuck inside my helmet freaks me out. I am not allergic, or squeamish around creepy-crawlies, but have been stung a couple of times on my noggin -enough to instill a healthy fear.

Man.
I ride up in Angeles National Forest on my own during the summer when I am off (I know I shouldn't) and I am always scared of those big white vans. I think I had a heart attack once when I had to change a flat on the side of the road.

Deer.
Dumbest creatures on earth!
You come around a corner and surprise one of them, you could get run over.

I'd say suicidal dive-bombing birds for me. I haven't actually hit one yet on the bike. I did in my car though. Scared the bejesus out of me.

Liger. It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed... bred for its skills in magic.

when running late with her offspring, the pedi-globus matri (soccer mom) drives with a ruthlessness and tenacity unmatched in the animal kingdom.

I normally ride a 15 mile paved loop in a wilderness park near my house and there is no telling what will show up on a ride. I was out riding it one morning on my hybrid and a family of deer were alongside the road. The doe's stayed on the side of the road but two of the fawns darted across the road, one coming within inches of my front wheel. I am lucky that I was not on my road bike as I don't think I could have unclipped in time to hit the brakes and dismount.
There's also a lot of turkey, foxes, and those damn buzzards on the trail. During the afternoon, when the park doesn't have many users, you might see several fairly large rattlesnakes sunning across the road. I don't like those! If you plan on riding over them, you have to go as close to the head as you can or they will turn and strike, even when they are not coiled. I normally get off the bike and walk far enough around them to where they are at a safe distance to me. You don't see the rattlers out too often, but when they are out, it gets pretty hairy as there are quite a few of them that sun across the blacktop.

Any of the stupid prey animals, squirrels, bunnies, and deer, are problematic down here.
I still remember the .5 mile chase a coyote gave me in Big Bend National Park a few years ago... that was a bit disturbing. Ranger said it was 'common' for solo bikers and trail-runners, though.

unless it was a really early or really late ride you won't see healthy coyotes on your ride. They will avoid contact with humans unless there's several of them but then you're about to become a meal. If it was after about 7am, chances are that coyote wasn't healthy. The fact that he then gave chase is a damn good sign it was sick.

Crabs... (the animal). Blue Land crabs to be exact. I was riding one day in Key Biscayne like normal when I had my first encounter, I barely missed it. It was standing right there in the middle of the pass (I guess he was crossing the street) and he was facing backwards and started to move where I was going... It was like he wanted to hit me! I swerved the other way and he still just stood there staring when I turned around.. I've seen them get hit, and one time this guy about a half a mile ahead looked like he hit a big rock and flew into the brush, turns out it was a crab... (he was ok, but I haven't seen him back yet haha)

Saw my friend crash because a bee went in behind her sunglasses and got trapped, heh. Didn't sting her thankfully, but she was freaking out.
