Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Pedal Force CG2 Build

It was storming outside. I could not get the obligatory Garage Door shot.

My first build ever. I have only been riding for about 1.5 years now. I decided a couple of months ago that I wanted to know as much as possible so I could do my own tuneups and repairs. I figured that I really could not get a better education than to build one.

First experience with Sram. So far I love it! Very precise shifting.

Sram Force w/Rival Brakes.
FSA OS 190 90mm Stem
3T Ergosum Pro Bars
Planet Bike Cork/Gel Tape
Specialized Romin Comp Gel Saddle
Used my old SPL platforms just for testing. Plan on going with Dura Ace or Possibly switching to Look or Speed Play.

No weight yet. I have to find a scale. I will update with final weight when I get the real pedals installed.

This bike is actually not for me. I am building it as a gift for my brother. Shhhhhh!

I have 35mm of spacers under the stem. I left it that long so I have some wiggle room when we fit it for my brother.

The matching seatpost.

I need to find a taller seat clamp. Any ideas?

I have another identical frame. My bike will be a Sram Red build with carbon clinchers etc.

Thanks!

I got the Bontrager Race Lite wheelset off of my local Craigslist. They were a take-off from a Trek Madone 5 series. I paid $200 for the set.

I purchased the Force group piece by piece so I am not sure about the total cost of the group. It was around $900.00 or so.

Nice build! Look carbon pedals would match the bike nicely, imho.

The area that is "indented" where it fits to the seat tube is about 4-5mm taller than the clamp so you can see that indented area below the clamp if you look close.

I want everything to be neat and tidy.

I agree about the logo. It's not horrible but I would prefer it not be there at all.

I will probably void the warranty if I remove it. I think it's above the clear coat.

Nice bike! Can't beat building your own bike. Once you do you'll wonder why all people don't do it. You save money and time doing your own work.

You just gave me an awesome idea! Thanks!

Here is the obligatory Garage Door Shot.

Just got back from the first 30 mile ride. Shifting is perfect. No issues at all during the ride except I needed to stop to adjust the saddle. It is very fast, handles beautifully and absorbs the rough pavement better than my Trek 2.3.

I guess I now qualify to work on bicycles. lol

100 miles on three days. Everything is solid and performing well.

Weight equipped as pictured above.

Not exactly Weight Weenie worthy at this point but it is without a doubt the lightest bike I have ever ridden.

Camera phone pic for now, will get a decent shot later with a real camera. Took it for a 60 mile ride yesterday. Without saddle bag, lezyne pump, it's 15.8 lbs with the PowerTap SL+ rear wheel. I really notice that weight in the back of the bike since the front is so light (carbon bars). Still getting used to Red shifters compared to Rival that I have on my Tarmac Comp. The travel to downshift is different for the same amount of cogs. Accelerations from stop lights are much faster, that's where I notice the lower weight the most.

Nice, I have a friend who wants a new bike with a $1500 budget. I'll suggest doing a build like this!

It is. Since this is my first build I am really putting through some thorough testing before delivery. He still has no idea this is his bike and he helped build it! lol
