Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My first Cervelo build *new pics + weight*

Recently I sold my older Scott CR1 and decided to upgrade the frame set. The Scott was also slightly to big for me at 56cm and the new 54cm frame set should fit me much better. I bought the frame set for a great price and it arrived in great shape. I will move pretty much all the parts onto the new frame and hope to have it built up after the Easter weekend. Enough talk... here are pics!

2009 Cervelo RS Giro D'Italia Edition

Estimated build weight is expected to be in the mid 15lbs rage.

Here is the build list:

BRAND PART WEIGHT

Cervelo Frame 1065g
3T Fork 390g
3T Stem 110mm 131g
3T Seat post 188g
??? Seat collar 24g
Specialized Saddle 143mm 184g
3T Handlebar 250g
Fizik Bar tape 63g
Sram Force Shifters 353g
Sram Rival Brakes - Front 144g
Sram Rival Brakes - Rear 141g
Elite Bottle Cages 40g each
Shimano Ultegra Cassette (12-27t) 233g
KMC X10SL Chain ~256g - still needs to be shortened
Sram Rival Front Derailleur 86g
Sram Force Rear Derailleur 170g
Sram Force Bottom Bracket 106g
Sram Force Crank Set 544g
Rotor Q Rings Chain Rings 153g

Like the frame and should make a really nice build.

Also see you got your priorities straight - open the beer as soon as the light switch is on so you can see

Sweet frame. I have a 2011 S2 and I've never seen that version of the RS before.

Don't forget the big silly clown cycling shoes!

Seriously, this bike looks nicer than the other Cervelos where you can hardly tell who made the frame Is that a pink fork, or just a red fork in poor lighting?

Nice Giro Edition! I had to sell my 2011 Cervelo S2 because it was too flexy for me. My NOS Cannondale fixed all that...and then some. Good luck!

Thanks everyone! I'm super stoked to build this sucker up and take it for a nice long ride. I stumbled upon this frame while browsing the Weight Weenies forum and was able to negotiate a decent price with a cool guy from Texas. Sold the old frame set and a wide angle lens that I haven't used in a long while and with minimal out of pocket expense I got it.

Yes, the fork is actually pink! Since the frame is commemorating a 100 year anniversary of the Giro and the leaders jersey happens to be pink the color actually makes sense The color is slightly burned out probably thanks to the Texas sun. If you look closely couple inches below the 3T logo there are 2 lines where the speed sensor might have been attached. That's the original pink.

The paint job is indeed classy and the previous owner took good care of it. Before it gets built I will wax the frame to keep it white longer and make cleaning a bit easier. Better pics to come!

This particular frame set is pretty rare indeed. I emailed Cervelo to ask how exactly rare and was told in the mid 200s world wide. Some frames were given to the team and staff as gifts.

Nice looking frame, will be a sweet build. I am in the process of transitioning from my older '08 CR1 to a '11 Cervelo S2 and find the Cervelo to be quite a nice ride. Stiff when accelerating but doesn't beat you up too badly on bumpy roads. I still like the CR1's handling though.

I don't exactly remember the year on my CR1 Pro (it was a naked carbon frame with silver lettering) but it was a great handling and riding bike. If anything, because it was a size to big I would have to work a bit more to take sharper turns. Climbing wise it did great although the feeling was a bit muted. This build should come in about a pound lighter. Also, comparing the chain stays, the ones on the RS are about twice the size of the CR1 so I'm looking forward to pointing it up hill.

Also OP, have you seen the new Scott bikes? they're pretty bad ass looking....(as you can tell aesthetics are a big deal to me bike wise, that doesn't mean I'll go with a ****ty bike b/c of it's looks, just means that nice looking bikes, go to the top of my list). Your Cervelo would be that way too.

I agree with you. I'm very much a visual person as well. I did see the new CR1 frames and they indeed do look nice but out of my price range. I did want something different. Im sure there is a lot more to it but even the newer CR1 frames have chain stays a lot slimmer than the Cervelo or other brands. Regardless, can't wait to finish the build and start racking up milage.
