Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Poseidon Redwood: Crankset/BB Questions

Hey everyone I'm completely new to this forum and have some questions about my new gravel bike I bought second hand. It's a 2020 Poseidon Redwood and is only 2 months old; however, the left crank arm fell off during a ride one day and looks like the threads are stripped on the arm and the spindle. It has a square taper style bb and I'm pretty much confused on what to look for to replace the crankset and bottom bracket. I stopped by a couple LBS's and left confused from each one. The first one told me that the spindle was a specific size in order to keep the chainline and that they didn't have anything that could fit. The second shop told me that they also didn't have anything available either. So I'm trying to source my own parts now and I'm wondering if anyone can give me some insight here? Here's the spec list from Poseidon's website:

Specs:
  • Frame: 6061 Double Butted Hydroformed Aluminum
  • Fork: 6061 Aluminum Fork – Tapered Steer 1 1/8" – 1 1/2"
  • Shifters: MicroShift Advent X 10 Speed
  • Handlebars: Poseidon Adventure Bars with 24 Degree Flare
  • Brake Levers: MicroShift Advent X
  • Rear Derailleur: MicroShift Advent X 10 Speed with Clutch
  • Brakes: Tektro MD-C550 Mechanical Flat Mount Brake Calipers
  • Disc Rotor: Tektro 160mm F&R
  • Crank: Prowheel 38t Narrow Wide Crank
  • Chain: KMC 10 Speed
  • Bottom Bracket: 73mm English Threaded Square Taper
  • Cassette: Microshift 11-48T Advent X 10 Speed
  • Bottle Cage Boss: 2 on the size XXS, 3 on the size XS, Small, & Medium, 4 on the sizes Large & X-Large
  • Seat Post: Promax Alloy 31.6
  • Saddle: Poseidon X alloy rails
  • Pedals: Platform Pedals
  • Tires: Kenda Kadre 27.5 x 2.35 Clincher tires
  • Wheels: Poseidon Alloy Tubeless Compatible 27.5” Wheels
12x100 Thru axle front & 12x142 Thru axle rear
  • You will find multiple locations on the frame to mount an assortment of accessories in the front and rear.

This is you BB shell size, you'll also need the axle length. If you pull it the BB, it may be written on the shell, or you can measure it.

Just reread and see that you want to replace the crank and BB. Axle length is dependent on the crank you use as well as your frame (if you stay with square taper). With a 73mm BB shell, you are mainly looking for mountain bike cranks.

Get a Shimano hollowtech bb and a shimano mtb crank and you'll be good to go.

I have a friend that had the exact same issue with a brand new Poseidon- I know he replaced it with a Cane Creek bottom bracket. I'll see if I can get more info from him.
