Contador's Custom Derailleur Cage
Just came across a link to photos of Contador's TdF SL3 and was curious what the benefit is from such large pulleys... Is it common for racers to swap out the cage & pulleys?

There is a trend towards larger pulleys. Lower friction?

I read a tech article on there or Velonews. It is for lower friction, but I believe it was talking about Cancellara's TT bike.

It was Armstrong, Contador, Shleck, and Spartacus. It sounds like a sponsorship deal with the prime contenders. The riders are getting paid for the exposure. Otherwise half the Tour would be riding those things.

One of the Tour Tech videos on versus said that SRAM gave a special edition Red group to the last five TdF winners. They may have included the oversized pulleys standard.
