Silver is much nicer than black IMO. I even tried a quill stem but these ergo bars don't fit through any.

Always wondered what wear markers were for
Going around a roundabout flat out on my TT funny bike when I thought something heavy had hit my back wheel. There was a slight jink and I wobbled to a halt. Couldn't see anything in the dark so pressed on. Got home to find the brake pad had worn completely thru the rim wall. Who knew 20,000 miles would do that to a rim?

My recently purchased Schwinn High Sierra had a crack on the NDS crank arm, so I swapped it for a newer LX. After a first cleaning of the frame, I popped on these low-riders. 😎 I’m corresponding with someone, with a full set (front & rear) of old Bellwether panniers & bar bag. That should work out well, cause they’re red, and highly visible. 😎

Off to the bin with this new never ridden heap of junk. It's supposed to be Shimano 9s but this is the only derailleur I've never been able to setup, bought for my litage I spent days trying different configurations and it never worked. I thought I'd give one more try on my current project running Microshift shifters but no go.

I just recently bought a Schwinn High Sierra, down in Sacramento, then found another frame with most of the parts (no wheels), in Chico. So yesterday I got my “slingshot” stem installed. 😎
It worked out great, in a lot of ways. My old camera bag, that I carry my lock in, fits like it was made for this. 😁
Also notice, I finally got some low-rider racks, and the next day some old Bike Pro panniers for them. 👍 One actually has a seam coming loose, which I’ll deal with at some point, but they’re just fine for carrying big bottles of pop or water.
I see a lot better now, why a lot of folks put the weight on the front. It actually steers better, like it holds the front wheel where it’s supposed to be, even if you didn’t realize it wasn’t there. 🤔😉

Finally got the right headset to fit the Harry Quinn. Measured to be 30.0 headtube and 27.0, so the Seiki NJS seemed to work. Also building up the wheelset with Campy high flange track hubs, DT Revolution spokes, Nisi 200g Piste Rims and Dugast 20mm track tires.

Not really wrenching but while shopping to day i picked up a cheap basket and rigged it to my bars with toe straps. Works great!

I got a bike from a dumpster. It's a schwinn admiral 7 speed. It's in weird shape. By that I mean leather seat handle bar grips and tires all seem fairly new. Not really any rust or scratches on the bike. It had new brake cables on it but they were never cut to length. They literally were dragging the ground. Rear wheel is/was froze and bearings missing as is the chain. Cup and cone Bottom bracket is in good shape no pitting or rust. The 7 speed shimano derailleur still shifts but is missing both jockey wheels. I hope to be able to fix it up into a single speed for a elderly lady who wants a bike but refuses to ride one with gears. Any body have any suggestions on how many tooth rear cog? I cant remember what the front chain ring is and I cant go count right now.

Anyway, vinegar is just great for removing rust, especially from steel and chromed parts. I use it quite a lot!

So how was the result? I normally soak paper towels in vinegar and wrap them around problematic areas. Then, I just let them dry there. Sometimes, I am able to remove almost all the rust, sometimes not. You method should be more effective!
Anyway, vinegar is just great for removing rust, especially from steel and chromed parts. I use it quite a lot!

Prior to the vinegar treatment, I had scraped the affected areas with a pocket knife. What I’m seeing now, looks like a call for some wire brushing, followed by another vinegar soak. I’ll post those results when the time comes,
Not pictured is the chromed chainstay. That actually turned out very nicely. A little aluminum foil rub ought to get it just right.

Thanks! Not much to the job though. Easy peasy really. I opted for simple rubber padding, but I do plan on revamping things at some point by making a couple of wooden claiming cauls that’d hug the post better. As it is, it holds the frame securely, but there’s some annoying rocking to it, and I wouldn’t trust it with a fully built bike.

Took of the rear wheel from the SilverAce to pop open the Sturmey Archer XL-RD5(w) hub. I wanted to install a smaller 17T sprocket and take another look to see if I could do something about the 2nd gear slipping under load.
I recently learned the planetary pinion had a marking on them and that if you assemble them wrong you run into issues. Guess what, that's what I did.
The 4th gear still makes a ruckus when backpedaling at high speed. Classic problems on these hubs.
Also replaced the lithium grease with classic ball bearing grease as it seemed to have dissolved in the past few months and spread throughout the hub.
But yeah, gone from a 31.8 - 80.9 gear inches to 33.4 - 85.6 gear inches. The 16T sprocket I had would have been even better but I was unable to lengthen or shorten the chain enough for that to work.

Carved up some Crane Creek hoods for my NGC160 levers. Sharp pocket knife and and some delicate dremel work did the job.

Very small project this weekend: a vintage chromed steel Cobra style bottle cage completely furry with rust. Photo is taken AFTER soaking in oxalic for a day and being sanded smooth. Still quite shaggy and not much chrome left at all.
Mounted on a stick of scrap lumber to facilitate spraying with the leftover epoxy appliance black I used to paint my Lambert five or six (seven?) years ago. Just barely enough left in the can for three quick coats.
Et voila, it turned out OK; for something I might have otherwise tossed.
And mounted on the selfsame Lambert. Just the right bottle cage for this bike.

Disassembled a diminutive 1976 Azuki Imperial gifted to me a while back by a fellow forumite. Trashed, bent, rusty wheels on that thing, but lots of good mid-70s SunTour swag on the bike to recycle, which is always nice
The stem - frozen in place but looking fairly pristine otherwise - I soaked with a a couple shots of PB Blaster from both ends and let it sit and contemplate its fate for a couple days. (You know what you've done, stem.)
Tapping and twisting got me no movement, so I got out the old heat gun and roasted the sucker from beneath the fork crown for about 10 minutes. Long story short, it broke free without too much drama, and gave me a neat photo op along the way; PB solvents and moisture blasting out the little vent/weep hole on the end of one fork leg the whole time. Never saw that kind of thing before.
