I love working on nice stuff from a garage queen... The Torpado had Nisi sewups, so I disassembled them and overhauled the 36h Nuovo Tipo hubset. All matching and original from '72. Didn't really have to polish anything ... which is nice.

Today I swapped the handle bar om my Gazelle Team ForelDorado-Golff from 1996. My initial setup with a Modolo handle bar and stem kept on twisting and I could not thighten it any more. So I put on a nice Sakea anatomic bends handle bar with a nice Gazelle stem. Pics will be posted soon.

Little EGOist taped, black Mirage gruppo canceled, so it got a 10s Centaur to keep it shiny. A well deserved cleaning, cable end cutting, changing crank to Chorus ()once I get a BB), new tires (FIR Aria front wheel most likely remains a dream) and an eventual repaint (in the impossibly far future) remain open, so It won't show up here again for a while.But it came a long way already from the pile 'o junk as I got it, and it's still a budget build for daily beating.

I put a new stem on my Raleigh Super Course a week or two ago. Now I put on a new bell, and I hooked up the wiring to the dynamo-powered taillight. So now I have two headlights and two taillights for extra safety.

My BB shell doesn't have a cable guide, so I ran the cable for the front derailleur under it just as it is. That turns out not to be so stable, so I ordered a cable guide. I'll be drilling and tapping a hole. In the meantime, I attempted to prevent the cable from sliding sideways by wrapping a zip tie around the shell.

Here’s the first ‘parts hang’ - just to take some measurements and see what I think - and then rethink things like housing color / saddle / bar tape. Setback? Lacking a good non-aero brake solution. But it is cleaner, shinier, and more rideable for my current needs.


I feel porkchopbmx will be getting an order for several colors of housing.

Really? I'm embarrassed at how ugly it is, but sure. I have an album of the bike starting in the spring of 2019. I'm still adding to the album.

The stem is a Nitto Technomic. I thought it might be too tall and too short an extension but I think it's good. I also inadvertently set the bars with the ramps level, and I like that so much that I did the same to my McLean.

The bell is a Greallthy. Silly name, good bell.

Overhauled the Torpado's Dura Ace calipers and learned something new: it's a lot easier to adjust 'em without the spring engaged. I used to tweak adjustment after they were mounted, but I think they're already good now.



Unfortunately, when fiddling with a Campy top tube cable clamp, the screw went flying, and I couldn't locate it in the air nor with a broom for twenty minutes. It has apparently entered another dimension. Godspeed, screw! You are no longer part of this world, but maybe the hardware store can help...

Did you alter the rear of that bike? If so, how’d it go? I’m thinking my SC would be a good candidate for a 130 spread because I have lots of 9 speed stuff. Just not sure how well indexing works with the claw hanger.

@JacobLee, yes, I spread the rear of the frame. I used the string test to get the rear end centered. I used dropout alignment gauges to make the dropouts parallel, and I used a derailleur alignment gauge to make sure the hanger was aligned. These are all very important to get indexed gears to work right. At first, I spread the frame using a threaded rod, and that worked out very badly because the right side is a lot more flexible than the left side. It's more flexible because of the dent made to give clearance for the crank. I corrected the error by bending with a 2x4 board, and I could feel the difference in flexibility very readily.

After working on bikes for so long nothing should surprise me, but this is always a good one. I can hear the conversation now..."this tube I got at Walmart won't fit in the hole!! Don't worry my Dad has an awesome set of tools I can fix it" A big monster screwdriver and pliers and here is what we have.

I am so filled with indecision today I don't know what to finish or to start. Should I finish the Sekine ST or start my long awaited CCM project? The recently acquired Rossi would be easy, or the 73 Czech Favorit would be challenging? By days end, I must make some sort of move, .......... or not.

Today I overhauled one of the hubs on my cargo trailer. I'll do the other wheel next. The inside wasn't as bad as I feared. The grease was still wet and not very dirty, even though I've left the trailer out in the rain a few nights. Maybe I overhauled the hubs recently. I ought to log the maintenance I do.

Overhauled everything for the '72 Torpado and now beginning to hang it on the frame.



I wanted to use that IRD 6-speed freewheel and a 126mm Record rear hub, so I also spread the rear drops a little. I intended to get it to 126, but only got it to 123 and called it good. The wheel slips in pretty easily.

Now you're just showing off, that has got to be one of the best shop, layout, storage, projects on deck setup I have ever seen.

If I want to work on 2 bikes at the same time, one is in the basement and the other in the garage, which of course doesn't go well despite having plenty of tools for that.

I got these Simplex shifters for a pretty decent price and I'm working on reducing the diameter of the cable heads for a few Shimano cables. It only takes a minute or two with the cable held in a pair of pliers and working around the diameter of the head with a sanding drum on a dremel, I figure it's best to modify the consumables than bodge trying to drill out the shifters.

Finally splurged for some new rubber (SE Cub) for the '84 High Sierra...and bars...and a reissue Haro flex fighter as the cherry on top for the beautiful 80s SR stem I think I can call this one done now!
