Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

socks over tights? tights over socks?

In a bit of a nod to ex-member fashion boy Timmy, Im curious what everyone does with their socks.
Ive never given this a thought- I put my leg warmers over my socks, but apparently the other was is a thing.

It's a free country, but I think the usual way is leg warmers UNDER shorts/bibs but OVER socks. At least that's how I do it.

Over socks, but that's mostly just because I put my socks on before putting my tights on. Plus the Castelli LW tights have a water repellant lower leg, so I'd rather have that over my socks.

Under, unless your sock game is off the charts and you're aiming for that 80's leg warmer look.

My leg warmers have zippers, so I wear them over socks.

EEEK! Leg warmers and tights always over the socks. Really. There's was good reason for Style Man, too bad he's not around anymore. However with my rec, more painful does not equal more stylish.

If you happen to hit a shower or on wet roads, socks on the outside will immediately wick water into your shoes. You don't want that. That said, as mentioned above there are folks who want that 1920 mountaineer look and put thick wool knee socks on the outside. In this case, style does equal pain should the rider encounter wet conditions. So stylish.

IKR. What's next? Is it OK to wear arm warmers with a sleeveless jersey?

Channeling Style Man again . . . Yeah, should be OK since that's less comfortable than using a SS jersey, plus the viewer gets to see some nice skin and showing just a little skin is always better. Serious armpit hair is a plus.

Edit: For those who are newer to the sport, the much maligned Style Man was a column in Bicycling Magazine which was dropped in '09 IIRC. I am among the few who really enjoyed his humor.

Socks over tights is like an 80's aerobic thing, no? Especially the big long woolly kind.

A woman on my team won a national championship while wearing only one leg warmer.

It doesn't matter.

I call shenanigans. The top and bottom pics are two different people, yet they're wearing the exact same socks over their legs? Too coincidental, what gives?

Sock over tights is like undies over tights - okay for superheroes, but not so much for we normal humans.

You asked for examples, I provided examples. Im not sure what to do with this follow up post. I dont know the thinking of the marketing and advertising team.

Here are a couple of pics i pulled off google. Again, I hadnt given this a thought up until this morning when I saw a picture of socks over tights and decided to start this flippant poll. Im not defending anything and dont know the reasoning behind why some wear socks over tights/warmers.

Oh, I didn't realize the pics you posted were from a marketing campaign. Let me guess, from a sock company?
