Addiction LXXX

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Time to ride. I wanted to do a real century but my friends are not as ambitious so it will be a metric.

Since Heidi turned 19 yesterday I have been hearing this song in my head. It’s a decent song but as the father of a 19 year old daughter, you look at the content/theme somewhat differently.

Congrats and don’t like that song or much by them. Too clever and cool.

My lab folks got me to say yes to an outdoor happy hour, but LSS told me I was nuts. She’s right; I’m not going.

A friend is having a retirement party on the 30th and I’ve already declined. First off, his parties are notoriously huge and I’ve seen tons of pics on FB of him with large groups sans masks. Besides that, I get another eyeball injection that day and probably wouldn’t feel like going anyway

I’ve been wrestling over whether to attend this supposedly outdoor Halloween party. At first I was like “hail no”! But the host and most of the guests, including Mrs BD, are health department professionals. So they will likely be adequately safe, right? Right?

RIGHT?

And it doesn’t help that her last HW party a few years ago was a big hit.

Speaking of vintage bikes. I found my first bike. This the 1969 model and it might have been a 1968 because I'm pretty sure I got it for my 5th birthday. It is the same as far as I can remember. Definitely bad ass. We weren’t rich but my parents did well with this.

Let's be clear: I'd never be a Vol. My Giants give me enough heartache.

Also, everywhere I go the college football team immediately sucks so if I went there they'd probably lose to Vandy.

Life is all about compromises and trade-offs. I love my group thrashes on the road and they’re a risk I’m willing to take. The crash risk probably outweighs the risk of infection, anyway. A party could be just as important to someone, but I’d turn right around if it didn’t look safe. I’m not clear on how masks and/or distancing go with eating drinking and yukking it up.

Eschewed my coffee to get out before the rain. It hasn't rained yet and I'm done with lunch. I cleaned my plate but the Mrs couldn't finish her Chicken Marsala.

Ate outside on the deck by ourselves.
