Fun story... a relief bill passed Congress during the early days of the pandemic that required employers to pay 2 additional weeks of sick leave for employees who contract the virus... but this rule only applied to companies with 500 or fewer employees. My company has about 6,000. The logic was that large employers already have "excellent" paid leave policies so they shouldn't be required by the government to incur additional costs.
Unfortunately, we also have a toddler, so when the pandemic started I ended up burning through a lot of my paid leave/sick time just dealing with childcare issues and a stomach bug. By the time I got Covid myself, I only had 3 or 4 days of time off left for the year, and since I had to quarantine alone with my daughter, I wasn't able to work for 2 weeks while watching her, even though I felt well enough to do my job after just a few days of the illness.
Thank you, corporate lobbyists, for ensuring the profitability of my employer was protected during these challenging times!

Looting last night, and they found a van full of explosives parked around the circle where I often eat lunch and did yesterday.

Was debating real vs fake miles this morning; the wind is allegedly less than on previous days at 4mph, rising to 10mph across the riding window. However, it's 39*, and I can hear the wind howling. I suspect 4mph is a damn lie. Tomorrow maybe.

I lived on the unincorporated hills for 16 years before we had to move here. We had county sheriff instead of p.d., usually no patrols. Private trash, no sewer system, county water and SCE for power, instead of LA DWP. We had natural gas but houses a little farther out of the city limit did not.
One good thing was the quiet No fireworks, ever, and no loud parties
Where I live now is about 200 yards inside the city.

You should have filed a change of address to Unincorporated, WA.
I voted today. Waited in line almost 40 minutes. The ballot itself took two or so minutes, mainly because, unlike previous elections, this time it was a paper ballot and you have to fill in big boxes with a little pen.
There were no judges on the ballot.
If there was a Hiram statute it would be in danger of toppling in the A.M.!

Whew. Is it kept in a subterranean bunker? I was tossing and turning all night in anxiety.

The damn PowerTap pedals I inherited from AG's old bike and put on my trainer bike don't work a damn, so I need to download my ride from Rouvy and strip the speed/ position info and then upload to Garmin. Motivation for real riding, I suppose.
Also, I can't be trusted to do an easy day when I need to, apparently.

I did cut and split some of my firewood and had 4 wheel drive cars for the first time and put studded tires on them in winter. I shoveled snow for the first time, tried cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and paid $2 to harvest my own Christmas tree in the woods.
Best time of my life.

We have postal service, electricity, and a phone line. But, we're on a well, septic, and have our gas trucked in.

We had well water there and paid a flat rate of $200 per year if we stayed under a certain limit, which we always did. I guess it could be a pain if you had your own well but ours was a community service. A friend lived in the desert hills and spent thousands on dry wells and ended up having his water trucked in by a service.
The 2 places I lived with septic tanks were trouble free except a tree root got into the main line at the last rental and the landlord had to dig it up and replace a section of pipe, but that could happen with sewer pipe, too.

I've never had anything other than municipal water, sewer and gas, and I'm too old not about to change now.
