I like this foam saddle but this fabric needs to be addressed. not sure if I should attempt to repair the fabric with some kind of tent repair tape, which might be ugly. cover it with a saddle cover, but I'm not sure which cover to use, but I have some ideas. or just replace the saddle altogether, cuz it's inexpensive

anyone have any ideas, they've used before, successfully, for a similar issue?

That's kind of a large rip, but I've fixed dings in saddles with liquid electrical tape.

Know someone with a sewing machine? I'd be tempted to remove the cover and use the panels as patterns to create a new cover in leather.

I’ve reskinned several saddles, although none with a cutout yet. I’d be tempted to follow the same principle and simply leave the skin unsupported over the cutout.
As sources for leather I’ve used:
- old leather jacket
- old computer bag
- ladies leather boots
- old leather couch

Process is quite simple:
- cut a rough shape
- soak in water
- pre-stretch and test fit over the nose of the sadbbjdle
Once content, I put the piece over the saddle and begin to glue it down.
I start from the middle of the sides, fold the skin over and glue it down to the pan using high-strength hotglue. Work my way round, paying extra attention to dividing the wrinkles evenly around the corners. Leave to dry. Trim the excess. Done!

Looks like work to me but if you've got the skills I say go for it.

It's your bike but there's "perfect fit" and there's "not exactly" I'm thinking "not exactly" won't look any better than what you have now.

Not being awful, but that saddle looks like ... <$50. It can't be worth the work of re-skinning. Buy another. I probably have a couple of saddles as good as or better than that one that I would GIVE you if you lived in Portland.

How about a piece of similar colour/type of fabric glued over the rip?

I too have never done work on a saddle with a cutout but i have recovered a Vetta saddle of mine that I really like and that was badly scuffed when it came in contact with a stippled ceiling as i was carrying it up some stairs. I used red leather from a ladies mini-skirt I got at a thrift store for $3.00.

Images taken at least ten years ago with an old cheap point and shoot digital camera. Saddle is still going strong in 2020.

I had an old black Serfas brand "waterproof" saddle cover I bought for my Brooks several years ago. it since deteriorated & was no longer providing much water protection. so I used that for a few rides



but ordered this Aero Tech Designs brand colored cover (not waterproof). it's a snug fit, designed for a narrower saddle, I think, but I got it on. will see how it works out

meanwhile, 11 days later, took the hybrid out for a ride w/ some family. turns out the cover is a winner, a little slippery, but I like that smooth sliding feeling, kinda like the Brooks on the road bike, but not quite
