Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Rain, rain, go away . . .

One of my morning rituals is to check the radar prior to heading out for my ride. Call me a wuss if you want, I just don't like riding in the rain (the only times I've ever gone down have been in the rain, except for when I got hit by a car).

So at 0530 this morning, the radar picture was completely clear for the entire state of Arkansas -- not a speck in the sky, and no precipitation predicted at all for today.

Well, what do you know . . . I got caught in a torrential downpour not once, not twice, but three times today! I'm talking so hard the rain hurt when it. Gotta love the squelch squerch sound of water squishing out of your shoes with each stroke!

On the plus side, the rain cooled me off nicely

Anybody else dislike riding in the rain?

As long as there is no lightning, I kinda prefer it. It's a nice break from mid 90's, constant humidity, and unrelenting tropical sun here in SWFL. And as a bonus, you feel like a badass.

I don't like ridin' in rain when the temp is low, say mid 60 degrees and lower.

I also hate riding in the rain - perhaps it's because it was during a pouring rain storm when I was hit by a car and broke my hip. This morning it's cloudy and looks like rain. Darn. I was planning to ride 70+ miles this morning. I keep watching for the clouds to clear. Maybe I'll just squeeze in some short intervals close to home. Darn. I wish riding in rain didn't bother me.
