Bike Buying advice, intro to sport
Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum, and fairly new to cycling. I come from a family with a few cycling crazed individuals and I've been riding since I was a kid but nothing serious. Now in College I ride for work daily (Postmates) and after finding my school has a cycling team I'm interested in upgrading my bike and going out for the team. I have a general checklist on what to look for but still need some advice on some bikes I have my eye on I'd really appreciate it. I'll attach a link to the bikes I have my eyes on below all advice is appreciated! Also any advice for a former college football player getting into college cycling? LOL. My checklist goes as follows:
1. Hard squeeze of spokes
2. Test brakes
3. Manually check brake calipers
4. Shift through all gears
5. check for alignment issues
6. Check for bends in frame
7. Check for cracking and rusting
6. Look at gear set and how far the chain can extend
7. Check drive train
8. Look for chain ring wear
Anything else I'm missing?
Update:Won't let me post links until I have more posts

I assume when you say your school has a team (that you'd like to join) you mean racing. Which means you'll probably want some type of road bike. There's a road forum here, and you should visit it because more people will give you advice ... some of it will be good.
