Guys, sorry to disappoint. In my wildest dreams—for either one. So I guess I'll have to explain:
I ride a Lightning Cycle Dynamics P-38, not a Lockheed P-38 Lightning, or a Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II. Yes, they named my bike after the P-38, and I've been in love with airplanes almost since the day I was born (another story). Several years ago I went looking for a faster recumbent. I came across Lightning's web page, and I was sold—instantly. Like the original P-38, you don't so much as ride it as wear it.
When I joined this forum, I couldn't think of a handle. Then when I got to the part about what bikes I ride, it hit me. "Lightning Pilot," with the avatar that is a picture of an original P-38 (Beautiful Lass), that I got from I don't remember where. With my ride identified, I never thought anyone would think I actually had or flew a Lockheed P-38, or flew a Lockheed-Martin F-35. But I can tell you this: Riding a Lightning Cycle Dynamics P-38 is the closest you can come while still on the ground.

Just came here to thank you all for the information you share with newbies like me. And for your patience. I was annoyed by the 10 post requirement at first, and it did slow down your ability to advice me properly on one of my purchases this summer, but I completely understand the need to insure that newcomers look around and get familiar with the overall vibes of the forum. It helps create a feeling of belonging, I think.
So anyway, I would like to warn you that even if I learned a whole lot in the past few months, I am still in the "answer-few-ask-many" phase. I have some bikes I know very little of and I love posting them here and learning about them as the posts pile up. You will hear from me soon, and in the meantime, I shall thank you all again and again.

I am also a newbie, having just joined about a week ago. I had questions about my vintage bike, but was not interested in the bike's worth. I was simply curious about when and where it was made. I am restoring the bike, and have no intention of selling it. I received some very helpful and positive answers, for which I am grateful.
I will try to return the kindness when I can by offering any knowledge I may have about specific bikes. Hang in there. You can still find good information on your bike without photos.

I am a newbie and like the others who have posted, have no issues with the controls on full benefits. I have been a member since 2014 when I responded to someone with frostbite questions and encouraged them to immediately take action. I have lurked many times, but have seldom felt the need to add my 2 cents. Maybe after 5 years I will jump through the horrible hoops (/s) that have driven me away and attain full membership...

So apparently your post count gets reset if you don't post often enough, or at least before attaining full membership. My account shows that I posted twice in 2014, but my previous post just above shows up as my first post in the Posts count. O the unfairness.

From The Etymologicon (Mark Forsyth), I discovered the wonderful word querimonious, which appeared in an English dictionary of 1604 but, sadly, has fallen so far out of use to be absent from my edition of the OED. It means, "full of complaining and lamentation." A word for our times....or perhaps all times.
**Merriam-Webster on line does define it as querulous, complaining, (so full marks to the Americans) but I like the additional dimension of lamentation in the old use.

Read it again, but change the word "bitterness" to "toxicity". Much of what I've seen is a bunch of people who think they're important complaining about the inconvenience of helping people. That attitude probably drives away more good new members than the post-count thing. Randyjawa, so far, is the only person who's come out strongly in favor of helping people, and it was suggested that he is wasting his time. When people like him are in the minority, as they seem to be, things tend not to improve over time. I see more arrogance and entitlement among the high-post-count users than the newbies around here.

Ha Ha....I see that eleemosyna is how they said "alms" in Latin. Good on the sturdy, practical Anglo-Saxons for shortening it to join their wonderful collection of four-letter words.

That's another confusing thing for newbies and it's not communicated. Randy makes a very good point that we never know how many potential members we lose by some of these hurdles. Why do Lounge posts not count ? Is it because that's the way it's always been done?

You guys have no idea. It is more like 99.99%. We used to get hammered by spam bot computers with hundreds, yes hundreds, of automated spams. Most of you never saw it because we have always been quite diligent in removing it. The 10 post rule has made spam much easier to deal with. We still get it, but are able to cut most of it off before you see it. I don't see these rules changing anytime in the future.

I'm still not understanding the "10 posts are hard" argument. Within the last page, we have the sweet antique black automobile with the big whitewalls, a Haiku, and my Luigi whitewall video. Not one response to any of those. Come on people. We are lobbing pitches down the center of the plate. If you can't respond and hit those out of the park, I don't know what else to do. One thing positive I have seen in the C&V Forum is how a fully vested member will pick up a link that a newbie wanted to post, and will put the image up through their own privileges here. I try to say welcome to most new folks here, and if they have expressed frustrations about the rule, explain the reason for having it in place. It can at least mollify them until they have the required number of posts to put images in place.
