GWB Bike ramps started
Not sure which will be which, but ramps on both sides of the GWB have been started on the NYC end. I first saw the north side ramp a few days ago on my way up to Lake George, and saw the south side just a little while ago. I've always thought that the south side ramp, where the hairpin turn is, could easily be replaced as it would be in an otherwise unused patch of grass and would not pass over any other roadway or ramps. It is finally in the works. Maybe by next summer we'll have something. On the north side walkway the fencing is all down too and workers were there. On the NJ end of the north side I didn't see anything new, just that the new car ramp from the Palisade Pkwy was in progress. I don't know if the new ramp from the path will be part of anything at that end.
I was driving so I couldn't take any pics.

I did the GWB once, it was a mess so I don't see any reason for me to do it again.

Good to see it's progressing, and hopefully they'll be finished sooner rather than later! I work out on that side of the river and take a shuttle, so have a nice view of the progress. I liked this source as a "what could have been" pipe-dream.
If the conceptual stuff is to believed, it looks like the North side will be the cycling side? It's already sketchy making a left turn to get onto the South side in heavy traffic after the intersection, and having the turn happen before the intersection is begging for trouble. The larger "plaza" entrance looks nice, but doesn't seem all that functional for mixing with traffic. There's no way that all the roadies that ride out there will stop and use the crosswalk 100% of the time.

I didn't even know about this. I guess because the GWB has always had pretty easy bicycle access right from the street. But looking forward to checking it out, nonetheless. Does this make it easier to get up to the bridge from, say the Greenway path as it is currently?

Maybe I'll check it out again in the next week or two, just to report on progress. GWB is an 18 mile ride from my house, so 36 and probably 40 miles if I try to cross. I used to do it regularly but haven't gone across yet this year.

I think the south ramp is the only one open which I use (with the hairpin turn). I'll look around the north side next week.

Was coming back from NYC last night and took upper level. All structural steel for the new ramps are in and looks like concrete has been poured for the entire length. New ramp leading to original bridge sidewalk is poured on north side. No idea on whether the new pathway on the actual bridge has been started or poured. Couldn't see it.

While driving to Mets game saturday I saw the new southbound support colums have been poured and the forms taken off. Not long before steel is placed for the extended loop. Northbound side looks really good. Were the entire walkway across the bridge supposed to be widened also?

I went by there last night as well and could see the columns for the south ramp. And going the other way on Friday I saw the winding ramp on the north side. Not sure what the plan is though. It would be nice if the south ramp could be put in place and used while the entire north side is rebuilt.

The walkway is NOT being widened unfortunately. With the cables where they are it was deemed too difficult. They would have needed to suspend the sidewalk on the outside of the cables to make it wider and they just weren't going to do that. They are going to put wedges in so that the tight corners around the towers aren't as tight. Maybe in my recent retirement I'll pick a day to ride up there and take a close look. I haven't been across the bridge since summer of '18 on the bike. Maybe I'll do a Nyack ride but take the subway on the way home so it isn't 80 miles, "only" 65.

I took a look on Friday at the progress. I can't say that too much has really happened. The north side ramp was busily under construction, not fully connected yet, and the north side path on the bridge still has cable construction going on. On the NJ side I couldn't see anything happening. The ramp will come out at 180th and Cabrini, and I'm hoping that they'll clean up the approach and add bike lanes on the streets there since it will become the bike only side.
I rode across on the south side and other than the helix ramp supports there isn't much happening there. The path itself only appears to have gotten worse with loose plates at the towers.
And why are riders such jerks on that bridge? I slowed down when it appeared pedestrians in both directions and myself on the bike were going to converge, and a jerk in full kit comes blowing by me. Is it really necessary to be going all out over the bridge?

Maybe I missed it, and am almost afraid to ask: "GWB"?
