New wheelset checklist needed
I have a new wheelset on it’s way to me this week. I’d like to know if I am missing anything from my list of things needed for getting it ready for my bike?
Rim tape
11 speed cassette
Park cassette locking tool
tubes
folding clinchers
spoke wrench
Skewers come with wheels
Anything I’ve overlooked?

Depending on the shape it's in, you might need a new crash washer (or whatever it's called) for the lock ring. Also a chain whip or other tool to hold the cassette while loosening the lock ring.

A chain whip is needed for removing a cassette, along with the cassette tool. It's not needed when installing a cassette. (The cassette "freewheels" in the removal counterclockwise direction, so the chainwhip keeps it from turning. The cassette won't turn clockwise for the install.)
The Park Tool FR-5.2 needs a wrench to turn, of course.
It's been redesigned with deeper splines. My old one slipped off the lockring the first time I used it -- reinstalling the wheel's quick release through the tool keeps it in place. That's still the best way to use the tool.

I'm not sure what washer you referred to?

The crush washer is a thin metal washer on the back side of the lock ring. If you have a new lock ring, it should have the washer already on it. So, change that. You'll need a new lock ring.

The cassette may come with a lock ring. The last one I purchased did not.

My only purpose is riding to stay fit. I’m a runner and ride on alternate days. I live in Texas and the heat beats you down running in the Summer and at least there’s a breeze on the bike. No racing just solo rides on generally flat terrain with a few hills.

verify that the wheels are true and that the spoke tension is appropriate, and fairly even. Plucking the spokes like guitar strings and listening for the same tone is the best way to ensure even tension - if you want to get fancy, you can use a phone app to determine the frequency of the sound. The front and drive side rear should be about the same, the non drive side will have a slightly lower frequency tone if the spokes are all the same diameter.

I’m familiar with tuning spokes from racing motocross years ago. And I also play guitar and have a couple of Android tuner apps. Thanks for the advice.

Received my new wheelset yesterday from Velomine and they're good right out of the box. All I'm waiting for now is the cassette to get here but it's coming to me out of Miami so I'm hoping the hurricane doesn't slow it down on it's journey to Texas. But having to wait on it is nothing compared to the damage Florida is going to get hammered with in the next week.

I took apart the hubs today and they definitely needed some grease. Checked the pressure on them and put them back together. Thanks for the advice.
