I never got the love of new pavement. It's slow, it stinks, it's hot. Unless the old was really bad, I am always glad to get off the new.
Likewise, I find the hatred of chipseal amusing. "Chipseal" wasn't in the vocabulary when I was racing, but that surface we just called fast (when made with rounded stones; some chipseal with very sharp stones are both slow and tough on tires - and skin).

I should also have said don't take I90 to get there. At least if you value your time. Took me 4 hours to drive home from Leavenworth yesterday.

Anyone who has the flexibility to skip Westbound I-90 on a summer Sunday should do so. According to the texts I was getting from the DOT, delays yesterday were over two hours. Yikes.

And, thanks to GPS suggesting alternate routes, even the backroads to bypass I90 were jammed!

You could see exactly who was using GPS because of the stream of cars exiting the freeway and taking back roads.

Those backroads don't end up being any faster and all that happens is the locals get pissed off because they can't get too and from their homes. I have a place off 970 near the Teanaway and from Memorial Day till Labor day I stay home on sundays and don't come back over to the westside until monday evening. That Sunday Sh*t Show is not worth it.
