I think it was four digits, no kidding. People didn't use phones all the time. I sent telegraph messages almost as much.

I was thinking Morse Code so I guess you are as old as I thought you were. I'm wondering if you also sent messages in bottles? *cue music

Just got back from 36 miles in the countryside north and west of Quantico (Prince William and Faquier counties). About 30 other riders, mostly on road bikes. Could hold my own on the flats and downhills, but I usually got passed on any hill. Still...I wasn't the wasn't the last one back by a long bit.

I took my newly rebuild Larky (Marin Larkspur) to work. Yes, I had to work today--new student orientation at the college. I can't believe how great the ride is on this upgraded beast. I'm so proud of myself for rebuilding it.

Last Thursday I rode from Lamberville, NJ to Frenchtown, NJ about 18 miles one way. Ate lunch in Frenchtown and rode back. I on my newly aquired Trek 7.5 FX and my friend on a Fuji Absolute 1.0. On Saturday I rode the Delaware/Raritan Canal path for about 15 miles each way with my Trek Navigator.
Today I took my 7.5 FX to Lambertville, NJ and walked the bridge to New Hope, Pa. Rode for about 15 miles, walked the bridge back to Lambertville, NJ and did another 10 miles.
Tomorrow, Labor Day, I will do the path again. I also ride the 7.5 FX everyday to work about 8 miles each way.

Looks like you guys and gals are having a great time in the new hybrid forum. My wife has a Trek 7300? and loves it. She recently did 25 miles on the 50+ Forum Annual Ride in Glenwood Springs. She will be 72 in November.

I'm glad you have your own forum.

Speaking of phones:

My ring as a kid was

2 longs and two shorts, and you rang it on a phone right out of a Norman Rockwell picture - and we had a 13 person party line. The actual phone number was "Cuyamaca #3"

To wake up the operator, you would crank and crank and crank. Sometimes you were successful, and sometimes not.

FUNNY! When I was little they just started doing custom phone numbers I guess. I'm not sure if it was on purpose but we had a phone number that was 522-5437. That was the kids line and 5437 spells KIDS! We thought we were so freaking cool!

Shorter ride today than planned today.
Was going to ride a 45+ mile triangle of Fairfax, Occoquan, Manassas. Took at little side trip to Laurel Hill to do some single track and had a low speed fall over on a steep asphalt connector (front tire rolled off a branch). No serious damage, but my left elbow is torn up and my left butt is very sore. Cut the ride short before I got to the serious hills, and ended with only 26 miles.

added - next day and butt still sore. Stairs and toilet seats are a challenge right now. Bruise still hasn't made it's way to the surface, but I'm sure it'll be a beaut.

Think I'll take this week off from riding.

Got five miles today then a bee flew in my ear stung me then crawled inside. I stopped grabbed my key and dug that sucker out. I must have looked like a crazy man while I did. Does anyone make ear protectors to keep this from happening again Doc gave me a shot and then send me home.

My old phone number wasn't anything special except that the numbers corresponded to the first notes in the opening of Yankee Doodle.

Have been riding the folder all week as the sciatica is bad and it has a low step over... I am good once I am on the bike but the getting on and off is painful and really aggravates my back.

Just picked up a Trek 7000, rode it today on our LBC Sunday Social ( 10.5 miles ). First impressions, seat has to go. Next step trekking bars.

lol

The bike was two days old. I've got the receipts and all. I will move the world to get back what I had.
Just reading the posts and sorry to hear about your loss. I have exactly the same bike and would be very upset if anything

May be you need to ride it more to get used to the saddle,it takes little time, trekking bars will be benefit you much bcz this is a comfort bike you have.
