Giant vs. Cannondale - which bike?
Hi - I wish to upgrade my existing 2005/6 Giant OCR 0. I ride once a week about 50-100kms per week with a bunch of guys who aren't into racing, but like to ride.
My LBS's have suggested an ultegra groupset and full/part carbon with either:
2011 Cannondale Supersix 3
2011 Giant Defy Advanced 1
2011 Giant TCR Advanced 1
Your thoughts please

2011 SuperSix 3.
I saw one at the LBS and it's gorgeous.
Identical to Cannondale's HiMOD pro-team frame,
but with slightly less expensive carbon
(still an excellent bike).
But that's just my opinion.

+1 I have a Supersix 5 and its amazing. Didn't have the money for Ultegra over 105 especially since I wanted to upgrade the stock wheels.

Sounds like the Defy Advanced might be the way to go,but the Tcr Adv 1 is one hell of a race bike
But if you drink the Cannondale KOOLAID, like this whole forum does then go for the super six
Is it me, or are Cannondale bikes just fugly

That Dale wouldn't need much upgrading if at all if OP went with it,
besides personalization that is (cockpit, pedals, tires).
It comes ready to rock right out the box.

I've never had a thing for cannondales. They don't put much into the design, but i'm sure it is made up for in the R&D.

I know...until you read.
"The carbon choice is different on the SuperSix 3 than on the higher-end versions of the SuperSix,
but the function, racing and riding benefits of the frame design remain the same."

Or watch & listen...

Dont get me wrong, i rode an old caad2 for ages, great stiff bike. caad9 is a great buget minded racer.
Just seems this forum has rose coloured glasses for Cervelo and Cannondale
I agree with Chado
Most of the Cannondales are pretty ugly design wise(except fot the Liquis gas edition i have seen at lbs)looks aside for the moment they are awesome bikes

Thanks for all your help - I bought the Defy (fantastic) which suits my riding requirements. I test rode all 3 and shaved $700 off the the $4000 price tag too

the defy is going to feel most like your current OCR
the Defy is the relaxed geometry series for Giant whuich repalcerd the OCR series
the other 2 are more race geometry
in the canodale I'd look more at the synapse series since is is more relaxed like the defy
if you want a more racy bike by all means try a TCR
but if you want a lighter more modern OCR look at the defy and synapse
also I believe Giant has stopped making the carbon aluminum hybrid frames... at least according to my LBS and replaced it with a full carbon weave with more resin so there is less stiffness and gives a more forgiving ride
